The electrician was on time all the time and fix the problem. I called him back for my circuit breaker that tripped. He added a new one and now there is a short on that breaker. I have to hit it with something to get my plugs to work and now I am struggling to get him back to fix the problem. We have nothing to do with the existing issues in his house. During our intervention, we identified numerous defects in the electrical installation and advised the client that the distribution board should be completely redone to comply with SANS 10142-1 requirements. Among the issues noted were incorrectly rated breakers, loose breakers, poor terminations, exposed wiring within and around the distribution board, incorrectly sized cables, circuits that were not properly labelled, exposed wiring throughout the house, and outdoor lighting fittings without protective covers. These defects were already present, and the client was informed that corrective work would be required. Now that additional issues are arising, he appears to be placing the blame on us, which is unfair and inaccurate. We were also surprised to learn that a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) had been issued for an installation in this condition, given the number of visible non-compliances and safety concerns throughout the property.

I recently had Joseph carry out work on my DB board (move and replacement), along with an electrical inspection. The job itself was completed over 4 days, and I must say the workmanship is immaculate, neat, professional, and solid.
I’m extremely happy with the DB board installation and the effort Joseph put into ensuring everything was done correctly.
Where I do feel disappointed, however, is around the inspection and CoC. I specifically requested a Certificate of Compliance. During the inspection I was advised there were only minor earthing issues, and I was told these would be rectified once the DB board was installed. After the work was complete, I was informed that Joseph could only issue a CoC for the DB board, and that a full CoC for the property would require another quote for major issues. This left me questioning why I paid nearly R2000 for an inspection that didn’t fully resolve or identify these issues from the start.
To be clear, Joseph is knowledgeable, very reasonable in his pricing, and his workmanship on the DB board was excellent. My only concern is the inspection/CoC process, which left me with the feeling of needing to repeat what I thought had already been covered.
