What do you love most about your job?
Pave Consult takes on projects across the spectrum of domestic work to commercial projects. This would be roadways and pavements, parking, driveways, and the more personal patio and pool design. We use SANS / first grade cement pavers, clay pavers and cast-stone pavers and flagstones. Within this I love the opportunity to design the best solution for clients – I spend time in the consultation and design of a project to create the optimised cost-effective paving solution.
Fundamentally, I am fortunate to specialise in premium paving, and, with a relatively short project completion cycle, enjoy the gratification of a job well done.
Pave Consult will take intricate design and technical work – because we can! And the same attention is given to the smallest, simplest paving request.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My own business was somewhat overdue as I have managed the Durban and Johannesburg operations of SA Paving. Pave Consult allows me to offer more personalised solutions at a dramatically improved cost.
Why should our clients choose you?
As an independent operator, I am flexible in paving consultation, advice, design, planning and implementation we can offer across all aspects of paving. We scale up for large-project / commercial work, specialise in upmarket domestic paving, yet are also willing to take on small jobs.
I am clearly experienced in the paving industry, and have taken the best of my past corporate skills - and improved on them. I offer premium paving unconstrained by a top-heavy corporate cost structure.
Indeed Pave Consult will gladly take on any paving project from small to large, simple to architectural. We have the skills and experience to manage detail design projects and highly-technical solutions including drainage, retaining structures and light construction.
Clay pavers
Clay pavers are kiln-fired from clay and remain the quintessential paver for roadways, driveways, courtyards, patios and pools. Clay pavers are available in many earthy natural colours to match the surrounding and design requirements. As a detail, bull-nose pavers are always recommended for steps and coping.
Corobrik is the premium clay paver manufacturer; and there are a few ‘brick’ manufacturers that may be considered.

Cement pavers
Cement pavers are cast from, well, cement. Cement allows a huge variation in design of pavers – from the commercial zig-zag interlocker and rectangular bevel bond to high-tech design slabs up to 900 x 600 mm! Practically cement pavers are usually 100 to 200 to 400 mm in various size combinations. Cement pavers remain a cost-effective solution for roads, driveways and pavements, but the range is suitable for architectural designs, for patios and pools and offices.

Stone pavers and flagstones
Cast Stone pavers and flagstones are moulded to imitate the sandstone or granite or limestone from which they are copied – but with better performance for road and pedestrian traffic, and pools and patios; at a more cost-effective price.
Pavers and cobbles vary from 100 to 300 mm in various sizes. Flagstones are typically 400 or 500 mm, up to 1 000 mm.
SmartStone is a premium supplier, as is Creative Stone.

Asphalt / tar
Tar is a cost-effective solution for driveways and roadways laid over a properly prepared and compacted base. The tar itself is supplied to site hot and is rollered into place.
Artificial grass
Artificial grass is available in various thicknesses from ‘putting green’ smooth to shaggy lawn, although 20 to 25 mm are the most popular. Tne base is usually a cement screed prepared for drainage, and the grass is laid in sheets and secured with adhesive.
