I don’t meditate, I’m not big into mindfulness, I won’t use up time on our sessions with long thoughtful pauses and I only work with people who know what they want. That might be in terms of their relationship, their job. It might be personal goals like being more assertive or sticking to an exercise regime or it could be spending more time with loved ones. If you know what it is and you're prepared to go after it we should talk. I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life working with groups and individuals who are all either facing significant challenges in their lives or wanting to make some significant changes. Along the way I've dealt with a few of my own including a deep level of anxiety about noisy crowded places, supermarkets, airports, shopping centres, the cinema. A couple of years ago it brought my life to a virtual standstill and on reflection I wish I'd been able to talk about it but at the time I couldn't. Please understand that I'm not afraid to ask the difficult questions and I may well challenge you on some of your assumptions but always in a professional and friendly manner. I will also hold you to account on the changes you commit to making because they will get you where you want to be. I have an ICF accredited Diploma in Transformational Life Coaching, an Honours degree in Psychology and I’m also a qualified Bushcraft Instructor. I use social media but I don't live there. If you want to get in touch my contact details are below. Email works and so does a plain old phone call. No obligation, no hard sell.

What do you love most about your job?

Being there for the ‘double fist pull-down’ moment when they succeed. That might sound like a convenient answer but it has got me through some difficult times. However bad my day has been, even a small success for one of clients can put a completely different spin on it.

What inspired you to start your own business?

A great deal of the work I've done has involved meeting people facing significant challenges in their lives; offenders, excluded pupils, combat veterans, forensic psychiatric clients in secure accommodation as well as people dealing with a variety of mental health issues, not least of all the stigma attached to having them. At the time the roles that I fulfilled did not involve talking therapy in a formal sense. However I’d always been very flattered that my clients wanted to talk and I’d always enjoyed hearing their stories. Coaching provided a means to have that dialogue in a more structured way which recognised not just their journey but desired outcomes and the steps in between. I’ve enjoyed it a lot! My Coaching journey proper started with Animas Coaching school who at the time were making their first foray into Scotland. I qualified in the summer of 2018.

Why should our clients choose you?

One of my skills that my clients comment on most frequently is noticing and remembering small but significant details about their story. It enables me to keep a number of potentially critical elements close to the surface and also demonstrates that I’m listening to every word they say.

As a man who had a traditional upbringing himself and who spent a lot of years nailing the lid shut on how he felt I can recognise the limitations - and occasional merits - of ‘the man code’. While I fully recognise that it’s good to talk, I’ve learned that it’s not going to happen just because it needs to happen or because it’s a trending hashtag.

Perhaps my best skill is my ability to help people recognise and acknowledge their entitlement to simple things like being successful, being treated fairly and being happy.
