Hi! My name is Juliano (DJ Jools) and I have started my DJ journey with Carnival Cruise Lines 7 years ago on board 4 different ships: Paradise, Legend, Magic and Mardi Gras. I then went on to work for Princess Cruise Lines and accepted a very prestigious role of Assistant Cruise Director/DJ From that point on, I fell in love with the craft mixing and performing for every demographic you can think of to over 30 countries! My live performing spans over 4000 hours mixing on board some of the most beautiful cruise ships in the world to the most beautiful destinations in the world such as Australia, Bora Bora, Hawaii, Portugal, Singapore and more! My setting on cruise ships doesn't just stop there as I have experience performing for every event possible from hosting & DJing weddings, children's parties, birthday parties, staff events, restaurants, bars, on the beach, multi-thousand people New Years parties, DJ Trivia's, and more. I play and am experienced with every genre, I have an advantage to this because I grew up being an oldies fan. On a daily basis on cruise ships I would run themed DJ mixes such as 70s, Disco, 80s, 90s, Latin, Hip Hop/RNB, Turkish, Indian, House, Top 40/Hits, Motown, Afrobeats, Dinner/Cocktail music, to even more complicated and difficult genres to mix such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Northern Soul. I also am a very approachable and friendly person that is able to take any request and mix it seamlessly into my mix. The secret is reading the crowd! Understanding that everyone is human and although people would generally LIKE to dance all night long, you need to balance the music and energy levels so you're not playing high energy songs when it's time for the crowd to take a rest! Promoting drinks at the bar on the microphone and encouraging dancing and song requests is a must! I feel like this aspect of DJing is being lost slowly and slowly!
My style is energy, approachable, and diversification. Because I have worked in over 30 countries and over 500 destinations worldwide, I understand people. I am like a molding jelly. My style changes based on what the crowd is, obviously I wouldn't be super enthusiastic during a cocktail/dinner hour when I am playing Jazz music, but my style is intended to be a strong presence behind the deck, knowledge and in-tune with what I'm doing at all times.
Not only do I get to listen to the music I grew up with on a daily basis, I am STILL learning about new music, artists, and genres. For example, before I worked for Princess Cruise Lines on a 5 month contract in England, I had no idea what Northern Soul was. I would call myself a guru in this genre now and it's an old genre evolving from 'missed' motown songs. I absolutely love Motown so it is without question I now love Northern Soul. There are too many things I love about my job, however I guess the main aspect about what I love to do, all in all, is seeing people smile, having a good time, genuinely enjoying my music and what a feeling it is that I can bring people together with the power of music. Seeing elderly couples that have been married for 60-70 years slow dancing on an empty dance floor (at times) is one of the sweetest things I have ever seen and the fact that I can bring that together with my mixes, is truly amazing.
My experience with working with over 75 different nationalities and how much time I have spent mixing in front of audiences of all capacities from 20 people, to thousands of people. From the nightclub, to the beach, to the children's discos, to weddings, to massive New Years parties in the middle of the ocean, I have developed a passion for people and music and it is time to share that on my own.
I understand in this day and age it is very very challenging to find a good DJ, especially now with how technology is going and how a lot of self proclaimed DJs are calling themselves one without ever having to work even a small 20 person restaurant event. Time and time again I have been to restaurants, clubs, bars, and even weddings where I am not impressed with the DJ performance, I guess I am a bit of a perfectionist. There is more to DJing than just hitting play on the next song. It's being personable, approachable, passionate, involved with your equipment and vibe. Not only that, I have worked with some of the most prestigious DJs all across the world from Belize, to South Africa, to Jamaica, to Japan, I still have relationships and mentors to this day with such DJs and although I am confident in my ability, I am still learning every day! I am also not a one-type DJ, I don't just specialize in one type of event or one genre. Truly my specialization is everything because I have worked over 4000 hours in every type of event possible. My travel experience spans over 30 countries playing and working with over 70 nationalities proving that I indeed do have a mix for everybody, as challenging as that is, I have no issue starting a party from thin air to every age, culture and demographic of person
