Doctor Jo Anne White has been working with me in my efforts to be more focused and to learn to have more self-discipline. My list of to-do things had way too many aging un-checked boxes and new things were accumulating way faster than the boxes I was checking off. Actually applying effort in a planned, logical, prioritized way always seemed to be undermined by a distraction or some new idea that popped into my head. Some things were getting done, others remained in stuck mode.
The words I used to describe this behavior were always self-deprecating and self-forgiving, humorous, a part of my charm. Dr. White was having none of it. She taught me that I was sending negative messages to my brain by using this language, and since nothing was changing, I was at odds with myself and the humor aspect wasn’t providing any value.
Dr. White proposed a hypnosis session to help find a new way to address the problem. She has a very special ability in the way she relaxes you and lets you use your own imagination and core beliefs to get you into a dialog with your higher self. I was elated to be in this sub-conscious state of mind where clarity, purpose and direction seemed so easy to access. It was as spectacular as it was easy, just a conversation with the best parts of me, my motivations, all the things that make me tick.
From there, Dr. White took the most pertinent affirmations, and brought them into the conscious world in a form that was both mental and physical, and structured them into a tool I could invoke at any time I felt I needed to re-align or refocus my energies. Using this tool would reunite me with that moment of inner connection I experienced and brought its energy into the present.
I began utilizing this tool whenever I felt sidetracked by distraction or was feeling
unfocused. The priority performance improved significantly. The idea that my
higher self was having a voice in my decisions was a powerful concept, and it made me ever more conscious of how easily I could stray down a rabbit hole of wasted time. I began to feel that I could still do better, and wanted to go back to
that dialog again, to re-charge that feeling of empowerment.
A few months after the first one, I did a follow-up hypnosis session with Dr. White to fine-tune and strengthen the positive changes, as the stumbling was lessening, and I was actually getting to know myself better. With new affirmations emerging from the depths of my soul under the guidance of Dr. White, my sub-conscious mind now feels more like my ally than that troubled soulmate I used to joke about. There’s still a ways to go in what I think of as my journey towards wholeness, but having Dr. White there for me along the way has been a wonderful thing.
I highly recommend Dr. White. She is a sharp, perceptive and highly-skilled therapist, with an extraordinary ability to get you in touch with your beautiful inner self. She has helped me change course from mocking myself to being more confident and more true to myself in a most loving way. That is a special gift!

I am a counselor in the Philadelphia area and I specialize in anxiety in it's many forms. Anxiety is our least-welcome companion. It holds us back when we try to take a step forward. It stands in the way when we try to connect with others. It convinces us that the world is scary and the safest place is our home. Anxiety wears many masks, but the best defense is learning how to identify it when it pops into our lives and combat it with a variety of techniques you will learn in therapy.
I am an attachment-based therapist, which means I want to understand why the symptoms are there in the first place.
