Although I am naturally shy/reserved, in our meetings, Tolis provided an environment where I felt safe to speak. He was also happy to share personal experience to add colour to some of our conversations, and perhaps help me to open up further. We met online on a weekly basis and, despite the mess of my situation, I always had the impression that he retained everything I told him. Some sessions were emotionally challenging; some felt inspiring; some felt pointless or repetitive. On that last point: I remember asking him about feedback on my progress or for more "structure" so that I could sort of know that I am progressing. Slightly naïve, perhaps ...
What I discovered was that these conversations with Tolis gave me breathing space - a separation from the acute pain I felt at the beginning of the process. I needed that to go on. He was a fixed point when I needed one most and I am very grateful for his help. I still hear his warm voice and wise advice resonating from time to time, and would more than likely return to him again, for a catch-up and/or when the need arises again.
