The Compassionate Canine

The Compassionate Canine was founded by Maria and is a positive reinforcement-based training company, offering in 1-2-1 training sessions and walks. I offer a tailor-made plan that is perfect for dogs of all ages that need to improve skills such as recall, reactivity, or calmness on walks among many other skills. My style is flexible; I can show you the tools you need to feel empowered to train the skills and behaviours to have a better relationship with your dog and enjoy your time together. This is perfect for people who want to ensure that they are setting aside time for training focused solely on their needs. We can shape sessions so that you get the most out of them, prioritising things that will be the most beneficial and helping to troubleshoot problems that may appear in between sessions. So if you and your puppy need help perfecting basic skills or your adult dog needs a helping hand learning to be calmer out and about, this is perfect for you. I also offer training walks where I can help them practice building on skills in a 1-2-1 setting. This is perfect for dogs that need help building confidence, practising neutrality and improving recalls. I will keep you up to date on skills that they learn so that you can also use them in future. This is ideal if you want to ensure that your dog is having positive experiences out and about while you are at work and helps take a little pressure off of you. If you prefer one style over the other or a mixture of walks and sessions it is up to you. I strive to be flexible and tailor my services to your needs. For private 1-2-1 lessons, I charge £35 an hour. For private 1-2-1 walks I charge £25 per hour. You can choose how frequently you want sessions with clients choosing from a few times a week to fortnightly depending on time and budget constraints. I travel to you and cover a large area around Poole, Dorset, and The New Forest. This enables me to offer flexible hours and a walking schedule I am fully insured and will always put the safety and happiness of your dog first. I pride myself on my empathy and flexibility to meet your family's needs. I firmly believe that training should be an accessible resource and aim to keep it affordable for all. To read reviews and find out even more about my work feel free to check out my website or contact me for a chat. For established customers, I also offer the option of live-in-petcare over weekends so when you go away you know your furry friends are in good hands with someone who knows and loves them. If this this sounds like something you and your dog could benefit from then I would love to hear from you! Please note: Bark charges professionals to contact you, so if you request for me to contact you and I do not think that I would be a good fit for you or I do not operate in your area then I may not reply. I apologise for the inconvenience.

What do you love most about your job?

I love meeting familes with varying needs and helping them achieve their goals so they can truely enjoy their time with their dogs

What inspired you to start your own business?

After getting my rescue who struggled to adjust to family life I threw myself into helping him have a better quality of life that wasn't ruled completely by his fears and prey drive. During this journey, I fell in love with the science of training.

Then after working in pet care for a London-based company, I found my love for canine care, paired with my degree in psychology Dog Training became my passion and I find it so rewarding to help dogs overcome their hurdles and begin to truly enjoy their time out and about.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am empathetic and flexible which allows me to truly understand your needs and meet them. My priority is to ensure that you get the most out of our time together so I pride myself on my accessibility and ability to tailor our time together so that any issues that may arise can be addressed promptly.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can travel to you and will be looking to offer online services in the future.
