Expect The Pawsible

Susanne Bertolas Certified Dog Trainer Susanne grew up in a family where dogs and animals always came first. Her dad's little VW Bug had more cages and German Shepherds in the car than could fit the human family! Her & her sister brought home every animal they felt was in need. Housing snapping turtles and abandoned ducklings that were rescued from the Humber River, to stray cats and dogs in the city. Raising money for dogs on walkathons was a weekend ritual! Susanne's favourite time of the day is early morning walks with her 12 year old Boston/Pug and chatting with all her dog friends in the forest. Then coming home to her Cockatiel Jackson 'shotgun' shoulder bird to start her day. With her 1-on-1 individualized positive dog training sessions, Susanne strives to get to know your dog and your needs so that you can get everything you can out of your time together. At Expect the Pawsible, we encourage you and your dog to learn in a stress free and supportive environment.

What do you love most about your job?

Helping Dogs and Owners: Dog training allows me to make a positive impact on both dogs and their owners. Seeing the transformation in a dog's behavior and witnessing the joy it brings to their human companion can be incredibly fulfilling.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Sharing Knowledge and Skills: I have developed expertise and knowledge in training techniques and feel a strong desire to share my knowledge with others. Starting an Expect the Pawsible provides a platform to offer my services and help dog owners navigate the training process.

Why should our clients choose you?

Compassionate Approach: As a positive and caring dog trainer I prioritize the emotional well-being of dogs. I use gentle, reward-based training methods that focus on building a strong bond of trust, understanding, and respect between the myself, the dog, and the owner.
Individualized Training: Each dog has unique needs, personality traits, and learning styles. I recognize this and tailor the training methods to suit your specific needs of your dog. I understand that a one-size-fits-all approach may not be effective and I am flexible in adapting my techniques accordingly.
Emphasis on positive reinforcement techniques such as treats, praise, and play to motivate and encourage dogs, creating a positive and enjoyable training experience.
Patience and Understanding: Dogs may have different levels of learning abilities, and behavior change takes time. As a yoga instructor it has come into my teaching with understanding, and empathy throughout the training process. I recognize that each dog progresses at their own pace and provide support and encouragement every step of the way.
Clear Communication: Effective communication is crucial in dog training, not only with the dog but also with the dog owner. Clear instructions, and offering guidance to the owner. I ensure that the owner understands the training process and can continue reinforcing the learned behaviors.
Holistic Approach: Consider various aspects of a dog's well-being, including their physical, mental, and emotional needs. They may provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, mental stimulation, and other aspects of dog care to help create a well-rounded, happy, and balanced canine companion.
Commitment to Continued Learning: Recognize the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest research, training methods, and industry advancements. I invest in my own professional development, attend seminars, workshops, and continuously expand my knowledge to provide the best possible training experience for you.
