What do you love most about your job?

I love meeting and getting to know all different types of clients (canine & human) but the thing that makes my job so rewarding and meaningful is seeing dogs progress, knowing that I have been able to help improve the quality of life for both dogs and their owners!

What inspired you to start your own business?

Having had a serious behaviour problem with one of my own dogs in the mid 90s, I quickly learned how difficult it can be to find qualified professionals with the right knowledge and skillset to help. When I did eventually find one of the few practicing veterinary behaviourists in the UK at that time, and began working with her to improve my dog's issues, I felt that I had found my true calling. On top of the scarcity of good quality trainers & behaviourists, I also knew that there were an abundance of other dog owners also struggling with their dog's problem behaviours...after all problem behaviour remains one of the top reasons that dogs are relinquished to rescue organisations, abandoned or euthanised...yet, with the right advice, most issues are resolvable. Knowing there were so few competent behaviour specialists I set out to help fill that void...I started studying behaviour at a post-grad level in 1998 and established Pawsitive in 2000 in London (UK). I'm thrilled to say that I've not looked back since and feel that I have the best job in the world! In 2020, we left the UK for Canada and I'm thrilled to now be able to offer my services to Calgary dogs and their families.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have worked more than 20 years to become the most knowledgeable and skilled in my field that I can be. Few can rival my experience or ability, and I truly care about the welfare and success of all of my clients, and work to ensure every clients gets the best results possible. You will always receive a friendly and professional service tailored to your individual requirements, and as much or as little support as you need.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, but.....I have offered video sessions to clients throughout the pandemic, mainly to those that I have previously worked with in the UK before relocating to Canada. Online sessions work best for clients that have already done at least 1 initial One-to-One session with me. Basic advice can be given in other situations but it can be very difficult to read a dog's body language over video calls and without being able to assess and interact with a dog first hand, it's not always possible to help in the same way that I can in person. That said, I will always do my best to help, so it is always worth getting in touch and asking!

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I am double vaccinated against Covid-19 and will have the booster vaccination(s) as soon as one is available. I am always happy to wear a mask during client sessions and during nice weather much of the work I do with clients can easily be carried out outside. In addition to regular handwashing/sanitisation, I am happy to undertake any additional precautions, such as social distancing, that clients may require. We're all in this together and I will do everything I can to keep myself and my clients safe and healthy!
