Vexatas Counselling and Therapy - Lisa Gilchrist

Vexatas is Latin for problem solving and that's what I aim to help you with; solving your problems about how you feel, how you behave or act (or don't), how you see and perceive things. I started my working career nursing in a paediatric department of a large hospital and became interested in developing my skills to provide greater emotional support to the children, young people and families I was caring for. So, I changed direction and took the opportunity of working in the charitable sector for Women's Aid (working with families affected by domestic violence and abuse) and began my counselling training. I have also worked for YMCA, Leonard Cheshire Disability, and the Healthcare Workers Foundation. I have over 20 years of counselling therapy experience of working with clients of all ages with a wide range of emotional and psychological problems to help bring about effective change and/or enhance wellbeing. (I have only recently joined this Bark platform, which is why there are no/few reviews). I work with adults, couples and young people. I specialise in CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) which is particularly beneficial for anxiety, depression, panic, anger, OCD, negative thinking, dysfunctional thinking, self esteem, phobias, addressing core beliefs and behaviour modification. CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle. CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. You're shown how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel. All sessions are delivered in a confidential, but warm and relaxed way - so there is no need to worry about booking a session. I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). Costs are £45 per 50 minute session for individuals and £65 per 90 minute session for couples. I offer sessions at my office in Bridgend or online via Skype, Zoom, Teams or WhatsApp. You may book as many or as few sessions as you need, at the frequency you feel is beneficial to you. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information. My website is https://www.vexatascounsellingtherapy.uk/

What do you love most about your job?

I genuinely like helping people to talk about their feelings, think about their choices or their behaviour, and make positive changes in their lives.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always worked to make a difference. I wanted to work with people to help move them forward in the ways they wanted to in their lives. Through counselling, I knew that I could help people understand what was holding them back, what was motivating their thought processes and why they reacted/didn't react/felt as they did, helping them to understand themselves and others.

Why should our clients choose you?

I can't promise that I can solve everything in your life, but I can help you to see it differently. I can provide you with the emotional tools, resources and knowledge to help you; develop resilience, restructure and reframe your thoughts, challenge your core beliefs and unhelpful thinking styles.
Everything will be done at your own pace, in a confidential, warm and supportive environment.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, I have an office base in Bridgend, South Wales where I see clients face to face, and am also happy to offer online sessions via Zoom, Skype, Teams or WhatsApp.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

During the covid restrictions, we complied with all of the regulations. Everyone at the Therapy Centre is Covid trained.
