Tyne and Wear

I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic counsellor and gained my qualification at the Northern Guild for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, one of the most prestigious organisations in England. I initially qualified as a hypnotherapist and further developed my skills in Person Centred therapy and Transactional Analysis (TA) therapy. I work very much in the here and now and pride myself on being an excellent relational and intuitive therapist. Counselling gives a client an opportunity to talk, in confidence, with a skilled practitioner who will help them explore any issue or decision which is necessary to improve their quality of life. Issues can be very diverse; bereavement, loss, stress, anxiety, carer issues, abuse, relationship difficulties, sexuality, work related situations, depression, eating distress, trauma or lack of self-confidence, in fact anything which is affecting someone living their life. The services I provide offer first and foremost, a safe space for my clients. A warm and trusting environment that which provides you with the comfort of knowing you can speak freely. You will be listened to in a non-judgemental and empathetic manner. This will be a space where boundaries will be set for the benefits of both parties, giving you a sense of clarity from the very first session. Sessions may consist of simply talking on a one to one basis, focusing on your presenting issue or utilising various interventions to help evoke and resolve some of your deepest thoughts and fears. The pace will be set by you, giving you the opportunity to regularly review our therapeutic contract, allowing you to maintain a clear understanding of the presenting issue and help maintain a sense of direction towards your goals throughout your journey. I believe we all internalise emotions at times and this can feel like a pressure cooker, not knowing where to turn or how to deal with it. If we can remind ourselves to normalise this and have the courage to talk about our feelings with a professional, the rewards may prove to be enormous., helping you to find your sense of self and discover the quality of life that you desire. What do you love most about your job?

Being in a position to provide individuals with a safe space and the opportunity to be heard is priceless. I take great pride in helping people to overcome some of their biggest hurdles in life. Seeing someone depart from therapy knowing they have achieved their goal can evoke empowerment to the individual and certainly gives me a great deal of satisfaction, having walked alongside on the journey to a more joyful and fulfilled life.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Starting my own business as a self-employed counsellor gave me the opportunity to achieve a improved work/life balance. I already have many years experience of working self-employed, so I understand the pros and cons of earning a living this way. There are many advantages working for an organisation, however running your own business allows you the freedom to choose what works for you as an individual to suit your lifestyle.

Why should our clients choose you?

I would be wrong to suggest I am the best counsellor, as the fact remains that we are all merely working in different ways. My ultimate goal with every client is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship by simply being myself. This will generally allow the client to also be themselves and feel more comfortable to disclose whatever they desire. More importantly, to do so without feeling any judgement will be passed, as I will always remain neutral throughout your journey. I attend regular clinical supervision which is a requirement for all therapists, I keep up to date with Continued Professional Development (CPD) and I am accredited with United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) which upholds information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals.
