First off the service is great. Waiter was very friendly, attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu (Rick?). Nothing special about the dinner salad but tasty. The Caesar salad looked better but I wasn't unhappy. The entree were just as expected...delicious! Had chicken Marsala which was really good and oil and garlic over angel hair with salmon. The salmon took away from the pasta so next time I'll have it with shrimp instead. Or I may try the pesto! Prices were fair and reasonable. I will go back! More...

Had such a great time with family at Consiglio's (or Consigliario's LOL as my uncle used to call it!) during my weekend trip to Connecticut. On a Fall weekend evening, I go for cozy and comfort food! Consiglio's was both cozy and had delicious tummy warming comfort food. We ordered fried calamari, bruschetta, and fried mozzarella for appetizers. I ordered the Chicken Rosa for my meal. The linguini was homemade in a pink cream sauce. I love that the chicken had eggplant on top of it since it's always hard for me to decide whether I want chicken or eggplant when I go out for Italian food. If you like all of these things in one dish, you might like the Chicken Rosa. Will not forget to mention that the service was stellar-kind, friendly, and attentive wait staff. I can't say enough how much I really enjoyed my time here! More...

Attended their most recent Murder Mystery Dinner Theater and it was a delight! I, along with my wife and 2 of our friends reserved a table of four and we were graciously shown our seats immediately upon entering the old-school Italian staple on Wooster St. The dining room provides a lovely ambiance with dim lighting and a nice view of the cozy bar as a backdrop. We could not have been more impressed with the politeness of everyone on staff. Our waiter Evan was on the ball throughout the night, and he provided the perfect balance of checking in when necessary but also allowing us to enjoy the show when trying to pick up on clues. We never needed to call him over or ask for anything extra, and he is as charming as it gets! We got to talk briefly with the owner, Trish, who was nice enough to introduce herself and even gave us a little background info on how the restaurant came to be when her grandfather opened doors 81 years ago! So cool the place is still in the family and still thriving in a rich part of the city after all these years. The show exceeded our expectations on every level. Our host, Chester, was hilarious but also very helpful in terms of guiding us through the show and answering any questions. The folks that play the characters in the show were even funnier and it was awesome to find out at the end that they are all involved in the local New Haven theater scene. Overall, it was an amazing display of theatrics and audience engagement while still providing guests time to drink, eat and converse. I've heard there have been some other places in the city copying the Murder Mystery Theater but Consiglio's has been doing it for years and it is still running strong. I highly recommend you take a group of friends for a Friday night filled with laughs and delicious food. And don't forget to try the Limoncello Martini! More...

Unbelievable food and top-notch service! So good, we've eaten there three times and gotten take-out (to take back to Vermont! ) once in the past three weeks!Everything we've had has been superb. Special appetizers have included Broccoli Rabe & Sausage (have had it three times - wish they'd put it on the menu!), Stuffed Portobellos (two different ways on different nights), and the Pannecotto off the menu.Entrees we have tried from the menu include Homemade Pappardelle Bolognese, Spicy Chicken Gorgonzola and Shrimp Consiglio - as well as an unbelievable chicken special that I can't recall the name of. Whether you're looking for an excellent lunch (including an excellent Lunch Special) or dinner - this should be the place.Lisa the manager keeps the place running smoothly, and both Evan and Jessica are top-notch waitstaff. Kudos to Consigilio's for having such excellent staff.Looking forward to another opportunity to be driving through New Haven either to or from Vermont -- whether it be for lunch or dinner! More...

Delicious!! My boyfriend and I are from Brooklyn and the Bronx, so our standards are pretty high. However, we did not have high expectations from Consiglio's and it sure knocked it out of the park! We ordered Arancinis, meatballs and fried mozzarella for appetizers and found that they were all delicious. The red sauce was super authentic, just like home. We barely had room for our entrees, the lasagna and pesto tortellini, but made sure to get our bites in. It was super yummy and made sure to bring the rest home.Oh and the service is top notch! Friendly and genuine. We felt very well taken care of :) More...

This is one of the best restaurant I've eaten at in a while. The service was excellent, Evan was our waiter and did a fabulous job. We ordered the garlic cheese bread with our salad, it was delicious!! Then I ordered the Italian Pasta Kitchen Sink and my husband had the Vodka Penne with Chicken, and for dessert the tiramisu. YUM!!! We aren't from this area but read reviews on Yelp and wanted to try the Vodka Penne. It did not disappoint!! The freshness of the vegetables was a key reason everything was so incredible. After dropping our son off for orientation at the University of New Haven we had lunch at Consiglio's. We were the only customers on the patio and as such we felt the service was kinda slow. Didn't really matter to us because we didn't have to be anywhere quickly. The food was delicious!!! We had the fried calamari (app), Caesar salad, chicken orzo soup, chicken parm, and vodka penne with chicken. Everything was very good! Would love to come back in the night time as I'm sure the patio would be even nicer with the lights lit up. More...

Classic Italian restaurant next door to Frank Pepe's pizza on the Wooster Street little Italy in New Haven. Actually went there because the wait line at Pepe's was much to long. Glad we did. Place is warm, friendly and very quiet and of course we had no wait. Italian American music and opera was a pleasant backdrop at the perfect volume. Full classic Italian menu with all the typical dishes you would expect. Veal was tender, generous and exactly cooked and sauced. Just what veal dishes should be. Linguini with white clam sauce had both whole clams and chopped clams in a fine sauce and al dente noodles. Only complaint is that some of the clams were a bit too large (Cherry-stones not Little Necks) and consequently were a bit tough and chewy. But the taste was great. Cannoli cheesecake was innovative and really good. Lavazza coffee was the crowning touch. Yum. Pleasant professional service. Pretty much my ideal of what an Italian restaurant should be. More...

First time at Consiglios which is funny because it’s located within feet of Pepe’s Pizza, Libby’s and Sally’s pizza and for some reason we never stopped in until tonight. After tonight I learned we have been missing one of New Haven’s best kept secrets. I ordered the chicken piccata, my girl ordered the chicken parmigiana. Both dishes included house salad and there was warm fresh bread for the table. I will say my chicken piccata was definitely in the top 3 of the best chicken piccatas I have ever had and Im pretty fussy. I sampled my girls chicken parm and it was very good. In fact she proclaimed it was “deeeeelicious”. I suspect the pasta is homemade or something similar. It was also very good and cooked perfectly. The tomato sauce for chicken parm was flavorful and not acidic. The house salads were fresh and the dressing good. Everyone else in the group enjoyed their meals as much as we did ours. We don’t drink alcohol but the other 6 guests did and said their drinks were perfect which is a pretty solid testament because they are professional drinkers. The meals were priced very reasonably, ours were $22. The entire bill with booze and gratuity was $475. The staff was friendly and flawless. The only downside is the parking because the restaurant is located in Wooster Square with all the famous pizza places parking can be a challenge so you might have to go around the block a few times to get a spot. What a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant!!!!! The atmosphere was lovely. Our server, Chastity, was excellent. And the food was beyond delicious.!!!!! We had delicious calamari and meatballs for our appetizers. The Caesar salad was perfect. My husband had the braciola entree and I had the carbonara with huge shrimp. There was so much to choose from on the menu and it's all home made. Chastity was great about guiding us through the choices but without imposing her preferences. And our desert was awesome too.....it was like a cannoli and cheesecake in the same bite. Again, it was homemade and so light. Perfect finish to the meal.Oh, and let's not forget the delicious limoncello martini we started with that's made with homemade limoncello. It was a great meal and a great dining experience because we weren't rushed and could enjoy every course. We live in Philadelphia but we will go back next time we are in town. Hey fellow yelpers! I was in town and Wanted to try Frank Pepe's .. after waiting about 45 minutes and at least an hour wait ahead of us, we started looking for other options. . I quickly turned to my fellow yelpers help guide us to this gem.. We walked right it on a Saturday night and were seated immediately, the place was busy but had open tables. The wait staff friendly and understood we were bleed over from the more popular restaurant next door. We had a large group after an NCAA basketball game, no march dancing for us! Upset after the defeat, good food and some season ending drinks to wash off the stench of defeat always makes everything better. We had a wide split across the menu.. the vodka pasta some of the best I've every had. Spaghetti with meatballs also great, salman was fresh and tasted like a more expensive restaurant .. I could go on and on. It's always better when to stumble across a great find and this place was it! Frank Pepe will see me next year and we will have the look of victory on our faces! but if the wait is long, I know where we are going! More...

My friend and I had a lovely dinner here this past evening. Chasity, our waitress, was really nice and enthusiastic about the menu. I can see why!We started with the mozz sticks, which came in triangles and had a great breading and side sauce. It was tough to pick a main, but I was drawn to the homemade angel hair pasta, which was nice and garlic-y. The portion was big enough to have leftovers. In a rare course of events, we ended up getting free dessert (with the Yelp check-in!), and we decided on the cannoli cheesecake, which might have been my most favorite part of the whole meal. So decadent. Nice homey feel without feeling too stuffy. They have various events coming up, like cooking classes and a murder mystery night. It would be a fun space for either types of events, I think. More...
