RESULTS!!!! I highly recommend the K9 Institute. We did a 4 week board and train with our 13 month old Doberman Leia and have been blown away by the dog we got back. Leia is a smart dog and was a good girl before training, but she is also a big, strong dog that would only listen when she felt like it. For instance, human mealtime was impossible when the dog was out of the crate. Having people over could also be a nightmare since Leia would either be up in their grill the entire time or bark if we stuck her in her crate or outside. Fast forward 4 weeks and we have a complete joy of a dog who only goes in her crate at night. She goes to and stays on her “place” until we release her.
We came into the training facility for a visit at the end of week 2. My wife’s jaw hits the floor. Our beast of a dog is SITTING on a mat 50 yards away staring intently at us, not barreling across the carpet to say hi. Neither of us thought this would be possible in only 2 weeks. Over the next 2 weeks her behavior was refined even more and by the end we had a dog that we could essentially control off leash (a little too early for complete off leash, but we are getting there).
The K9 Instutide operates more like an all-you-can-eat buffet instead of an a la carte restaurant. They don’t have preset basic/ advanced/super advanced training packages. They simply teach your dog as much as he/she can absorb during the time there. At a MINIMUM they will have the basic commands down pat. Leia is at the point where we can get her to heel on and off leash. They taught her to speak, touch objects, and started some scent work. They will work with your dog to see what it enjoys and what it is capable of. Finally, they told us how strong Leia’s food drive was and taught us how to use it at home. Great experience, great results.

I have vast experience of 20 years of working with dogs of many breeds and personalities, as well as formal education. I graduated from the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior. Among many, there are two main aspects that set my business apart from others: 1. While dealing with anxious and aggressive dogs, I try to get to the source of the problem. We have to change the dog' emotional response to the trigger. If we just tell the dog to be quiet or ignore something or punish him for his behavior, we are simply putting a BandAid over the issue instead of getting to the source of it. At some point, the dog will not be able to continue to suppress the emotions and will have another outbreak. I want to make the dog feel more relaxed around other dogs or things that bother him. I want to relieve the anger and panic. 90% of aggression is fear or anxiety based. If we address fear and anxiety, we are going to be much more successful in helping the dog in the long term. 2. I have a very successful Puppy Program. It is based on impulse control or teaching the puppy patience. Puppy learns to compose herself to obtain what she wants from the owner. We not only work on basic behaviors but also teach the puppy to be polite when asking for attention, learn to give owners space and settle. We address no jumping and biting very early on. I teach my clients how to replace behaviors they do not like with the ones they prefer. The training program is very efficient and easy to follow. I am a positive but not a permissive trainer, and I do believe in having rules, but I prefer following through without unnecessary coercion. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients and their dogs lead harmonious lives together. All owners deserve a great dog and all dogs deserve great owners.
