Ellen The Dog Trainer

Los Angeles

I offer private training sessions for all dogs ranging in age from puppy to seniors. This includes private sessions with you, or Day Training sessions where I work with your dog while you're at work. My methods are rooted in Positive Reinforcement. I specialize in working dogs who suffer from fear and reactivity, but that does not exclude me from the joys of working with many puppies, too! I specialize in Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) and in addition to my certification in BAT (CBATI), I am also a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA).

What do you love most about your job?

There’s a quote about having “your heart in your business and your business in your heart” and that describes me very much as a professional dog trainer. I love teaching and educating my clients - both the humans and the dogs!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I began my career in dog training by volunteering at the Los Angeles County Animal Shelter in Agoura Hills. It was here that I experienced first hand the tremendous variety of breeds, dispositions, and behavior issues. I also realized how just a little bit of training could have a huge impact on the dog and their future families.

Inspired by the transformations at the shelter – and most importantly from my own dog Beatrix (RIP) – I soon began devoting my time to working with dogs on a professional level. I left the music industry after 20+ years and have absolutely loved working as a professional dog trainer ever since.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and Certified Behavior Adjustment Training Instructor (CBATI). I am the BAT Program Coordinator for Grisha Stewart where I oversee the BAT Certification for trainers all around the world. I am an admin/moderator for the Official BAT Facebook Group and Grisha Stewart’s Animal Building Blocks Academy FB Group, monitoring training advice and content related to dog behaviors. In addition to my private training, I am the first instructor to offer group classes on Reactivity for spcaLA – Long Beach.

Outside of private training, I am the Resident Dog Trainer for Fetch! Pet Care, the nation’s largest franchise of pet sitting and dog walking services. Look for my Fetch! monthly FB Live segments, and tips on their FB page.

Collaborating with other trainers is key to growth as a trainer. I am honored to be the 2017 co-facilitator of the Southern California Dog Trainers Forum where trainers from all over Southern CA attend our monthly presentations, and informative discussions.
