Whitaker Dog - Training, Daycare and Boarding

Whitaker dog day camp is the absolute best! I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. Our boy always comes home happy from his time there - we cannot overstate how much we appreciate Ethan and his team for taking care of our dog. Everyone is so nice and responsive, and one particular moment that stuck with me from one of his boarding stays is when the drop-off team member said "I played with him myself!" Having come from a daycare that leaves the dogs in a room to play with each other, this meant the world to me, as the folks at Whitaker take care to spend time with the pups and get to know them as well. They are also very responsive, and reply to any message I'll send them as soon as possible, as well as being accommodating. I am writing this review to express my disappointment and frustration with the mismanagement and lack of accountability at Whitaker Dog Day Care. After working there for a significant period, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my position due to the ongoing issues that have made it impossible for me to continue my employment. One of the main concerns I had was the consistent mismanagement that occurred following the departure of Aaron, who was an administrative assistant. The general manager, Mark, has failed to effectively handle the employee and client schedules, resulting in repeated scheduling mishaps. Despite his micromanagement tendencies and focus on insignificant matters, Mark has proven to be inadequate in his role. His inability to think independently and dismissiveness towards suggestions from the team has hindered our progress and caused disruption in our workflows. It is concerning to see someone in a leadership position who lacks the necessary qualifications and self-reliance to fulfill their responsibilities. Furthermore, his tendency to retreat to the office and spend time on non-work-related activities like watching YouTube videos further compromises his effectiveness as a manager. Moreover, I was troubled by the request to engage in dishonest practices regarding the passing of a dog in our care, and the fencing setup which said dog was placed overnight. This request goes against my moral and ethical principles, and seeking advice from others confirmed that it was morally wrong. If honesty is valued, it should be practiced fully without compromising its integrity. It is essential for the management to address this matter with the dog’s owner and commit to absolute transparency. Furthermore, I urge the management to implement crucial changes to improve the facility. This includes investing in additional resources such as crates, fencing, sanitization measures, and blankets for the boarding room. The installation of security cameras and enhancements to outdoor fencing, as well as the creation of a well-equipped reception area for pick-ups and drop-offs, would greatly enhance the safety and efficiency of the operations. While I understand the financial constraints the company may face, it is disheartening to witness extravagant expenditures, like the recent acquisition of a $70,000 personal vehicle financed through a company loan by the owner, while essential improvements remain unaddressed. Such choices demonstrate a lack of responsibility and disregard for the needs of the facility, the team, and most importantly the dogs. During my time at Whitaker Dog Day Care, I dedicated myself to making it a better place for both our clients and employees. However, the lack of reciprocation and support from the management left me feeling undervalued and disillusioned. It is disheartening to be the only individual consistently striving for the betterment of the organization. In conclusion, I would not recommend Whitaker Dog Day Care due to the issues outlined above. It is my hope that the management takes the necessary steps to address these concerns and create a more positive and well-managed environment for both the employees and the dogs under their care. I would really advise dog owners, especially of reactive dogs, to stay away. Normally I don’t leave reviews, but in light of recent board and train disasters around the country coming up, I felt the need to share. Let me just say, our experience with this dog camp occurred several months ago but the interaction still sticks with me. When the guy showed up to our house to do the dog interview, we warned him our pup is really shy and fearful of strangers and tried to explain the protocols we do in our home to make her feel confident. He completely ignored us and proceeded to GRAB HER BY THE HARNESS and pull her towards him, absolutely ignoring her personal boundaries and signals as well as our advice for handling OUR dog. She was TERRIFIED. We are so lucky she isn’t the kinda dog who attacks when she’s afraid like some dogs do because I’m telling you this guy would have gotten bit. And it would have been his fault. Everything about what he shared about this facility makes me think it’s a really chaotic and overstimulating situation for dogs, full of staff who clearly can’t read dog body language. I say this as someone who knows a LOT about dog behavior, cooperative care, and safety. If you're looking for a great place to leave your pup while you're out of town, look no further! I have had issues with dog camps in the past. I am also very picky with who I trust with my dogs. Initially it was tough to even consider a dog camp. After meeting Ethan(super cool guy btw), his team, and seeing how they watch over the dogs, I feel safe knowing that buddy is really having the time of his life. That is not a figure of speech. Honestly if I was a dog, PLEASE send me here, don't leave me in the apartment haha. The workers there are amazing and always take great care of every dog. Buddy always comes back happy and tired after a fun day with his friends, which is exactly what I want. He is super active, and if he doesn't get active, he rips up the couch, now buddy has no interest to chew stuff up! I just feel like a better owner knowing that my boy is out having fun. Can’t recommend. Your dog may or may not get picked up. Which is a major issue if you leave for work trusting they’ll pick up within their specified time frame and then forget about your dog for HOURS. Happened more than once.

This was Clemmys first experience with daycare and I was a wreck sending my baby off. From our first meeting with Ethan, to making arrangements with Britt, to pick up and drop off with Gabriel & Dylan, everyone has been friendly, reliable and professional. I have a reactive (insecure) puppy that had been in 1:1 training for a few months. He was still very fearful of other dogs, and I reached out to Whitaker to try to get him more socialized. The evaluation was super quick, and he started day care the next week. Britt is great with scheduling and communication. I got updates about how he was settling in, and the pick-up drop-off service is fantastic. I decided to board him over the Thanksgiving holiday and he looked so happy in all of the photos they shared. To be honest, I feel like he was a little disappointed to come home. While he was there, Aimee groomed him for the first time and took so much care in getting Gus Gus to be comfortable. I can’t rave about the staff enough. Whitaker Dog Care is unlike any other dog care facility. They offer door to door service, the dogs have a blast while at their day camp and then come home ready for dinner and a good night’s sleep. Rihanna had a great time spending a few days at day camp. Cannot top being picked up and dropped off and Ethan kept us updated everyday on our girl while we were out of town. Cannot recommend them enough.

We’ve been sending our dog with Ethan a few times a week for several months now, and we couldn’t be happier with the pickup/drop off/exercise service Whitaker Dog Care provides. Our dog gets so excited to see the van when he gets picked up, and he comes back to us at the end of the day exhausted from his day of play. Having Ethan has been instrumental to our success while working from home, and it’s a huge peace of mind knowing our dog is well taken care of while we readjust to more time inside the house. As a new dog mom (in a new city) I was in search of quality care for our 1 year old high energy puppy, Louie. I contacted Ethan and we made an appt for him to meet our puppy beforehand which I appreciated. He was able to handle Louie and alleviate me of any concerns. Whitaker Dog Care is unique because it provides pick up and drop off. We are able to work full days without having to worry about time or traffic. Ethan is reliable, professional and provides outstanding service. The real proof is in Louie's behavior. Right before the van pulls up we say "Ethan is here!" and he lights up.
