They gave me hope and saved my life from depression, bi-pilor and schizophrenia diagnosis. They saved me from addiction as well. They gave me the strength to feel good about myself again and the life decisions I was making was right. They gave me the strength and courage to overcome my obstacles. My biggest downfall was my family judgement of me and what kind of person I was... I listened to them until I came to this center. It is the right center to help you find your voice. They taught me my personal rights and they gave me education and support along with self-advocacy. My next downfall was probation I had alot of obstacles with that. They gave me the tools I needed to complete probation and avoid going back to prison. The ladies in the class were nothing but supportive and answered every question I had. I started my journey in February of this year and to this day they are a life line of support if and when needed. I am able to help other people today with the life skills and tools this center taught me through self-advocacy. More...

I've not been to the center yet, nor physically met with the peer specialists, however, I was lucky to have spent quality time with Lena. Lena knows no strangers, she begins the day giving love and support to her staff (she treats them as if they are of her blood!). What do you love most about your job?
The Hope Concept Wellness Center is Texas first peer run, consumer-led whole health and wellness solution based in Hope, Self-determination, Recovery and Self- empowerment. Being a person with lived experience in mental health I quickly recognized the gaps in service and what was available to consumers dealing with mental health issues. I love the difference I am able to make everyday where mental health is concerned. Whether it be facilitating a WRAP class, working to help peers find employment connections with local mental health associations or supporting peers to empower themselves in how to live a life in recovery. The Hope Concept Wellness Center helps peers find their voice.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The Hope Concept Wellness Center is a personal passion of mine envisioned over time and dedication. Being a person with lived experience with mental health issues I was made very aware of gaps in the system where mental health was concerned. I am fortunate enough to have started my for profit center. The Hope Concept Wellness Centers core service is WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan). It is a program I have been using for myself and training peers with for 16 years.

The Hope Concept Wellness Center is Texas first peer run, consumer-led whole health and wellness solution based in Hope, Self-determination, Recovery and Self-empowerment. We also provide both WRAP classes for peers and for facilitators, the unique strength of The Hope Concept Wellness Center is in peer mentorship programs. The model that we have created has been used by LMHAs throughout the state and nationally. The Hope Concept Wellness Center helps peers find their voice with passion and knowledge of the mental health field. We have a working knowledge and contacts in the community. Magdalena Caballero-Phillips has been developing strength- based relationships with many LMHAs through out Texas and the Metroplex. Working with the Hope Concept Wellness Center will provide peers with service and support to manage and navigate their mental illness and other kinds of health challenges.
