My friend recommended this salon, and I had a wonderful first experience! They did a complimentary consultation, and I returned for a full appointment with Alyssa. I told her what I was looking for (mostly blonde with a bit of shadow root) and she pulled it off wonderfully! She also gave me a great cut to freshen up my new 'do. Ash did an amazing job. My hair has literally been falling apart/out since starting a new job, moving to NYC, and the stress that has come with it. I moved to Brooklyn 6 months ago; this is the first person I have found that could actually make me feel good about my hair. Also, the head massage by Sammie was incredible. I've been going to The Bird House for almost a year now! I went to get a pixie cut and have been going to them ever since! I have had a couple of stylists do my hair throughout the year - Gina, Christine, and Katie (I wish I remembered the other wonderful ladies that cut my hair) and they're all great. Short hair cuts aren't easy but I know that I can confidently go in and whoever is in the day I need a haircut, my hair is always going to come out amazing! Ash must be a coloring wizard because my hair was transformed from brunette to a beautiful deep blonde in about three hours. Frankie is an absolute dream to be around and she is a genius at coloring & cutting hair. I followed her to Brooklyn from a different salon on Long Island. I am moving out of state shortly but I know I will be coming back to visit just so Frankie can color my hair. She tells it like it is, she makes me feel beautiful, and she is the only colorist who actually listened to what I wanted my hair to look like, which is so important!!! She gives her advice when I tell her to do something crazy like put foils in my hair, she is funny, has great personal style and is just the best all around. Also, I have very dark brown hair and new people who I have met think I am a natural blonde because of her! The salon is also adorable and clean and everyone else is super friendly. I've been there twice now and I'm so happy I found this salon. I went natural a couple of years ago and have really curly hair. I had no idea what to do with it or who I could trust to style my hair. I immediately felt comfortable when I walked in. Both times the hair stylist took great care with my hair, took their time and always made sure I was happy with every process of doing my hair. Best haircut I ever got. I was never happy with any big change haircut I got until I found this hair salon. I went from long hair to a short to medium long cut and just love the way I look now. I've been trying to find someone who can nail the Bisexual Bob™ for awhile, and Goldy fuckin did it!!! Cute hidden salon on the second floor of a non-descript building in the gowanus.  Ash gave me a great cut (chopping about 5 inches for a long unlayered bob) and a solid blow out.  It lasted even on the humid summer day.  I have curly, thick hair and this can be a tricky cut - I sometimes end up with a shorter then desired style once my curls dry.  Not this time! I'm the type of person who doesn't care all that much about my hair, but will talk about getting it cut for months before I am able to take the plunge. I booked an appointment online around 8am the day of and there was a slot open for 10:30am. The place was clean, bright, and extremely welcoming. I met Goldy at the desk when I walked in, she was super accommodating and sat me down at her chair, asked me about my hair, what I wanted, and if I had any reference photos. I had a bob in mind and kind of left it up to her to use her best judgement! She appeared very confident which in turn made me super comfortable! All told, the wash and cut took about half an hour and I am truly amazed at how at ease this short experience had me about chopping a significant amount of my hair off. Goldy executed the cut perfectly and I have never felt so good about my hair after a cut EVER! I had yet to be satisfied with a salon in NYC but couldnt be happier about finding The Bird House. This salon is amazing. First off, it's a GORGEOUS spacious place hidden away inside a Gowanus warehouse. Second, the stylists have great attention to detail and are skilled at balayage in a way other stylists cannot attain to. Thank you Frankie for the terrific new look!  My first time at Bird House and am so thrilled with the haircut and overall experience.  Really appreciated how Frankie took the time to talk with me about what I had in mind, asked me a bit about me, explained her process - dry cut, shampoo, dry and cut some more - and asked me what type of product I did or didn't prefer.   She quickly got me and my style - no fuss, low maintenance - and dove right into the perfect cut.I will be back for sure... and will send others to see Frankie too! This was my second visit to the Bird House. First time Kali worked on my hair & did a great job on my cut. Called the day before and the staff squeezed me in at the last minute which was perfect for my schedule. I had a full balayage and haircut with Brittany. Being that I never dyed my hair before I was a bit nervous, but Brittany assured me it would look amazing and she was right! Every step of the process was explained and she  made sure I was comfortable with everything she did. She did a spectacular job and I was extremely pleased with the outcome. I had a great experience at The Bird House! The other two salons that I frequent in different states are pretty nice, so my expectations were high. I was greeted with some Prosecco (always a good start), and I wasn't left waiting for long. I explained to my stylist, Brittany, that I wanted to take my recently-bleached hair back to an all-over color that closely matched my roots. I informed her of a previous experience I had in which my hair turned out much too dark for my taste, and she made sure that she avoided that. I am absolutely in love with The Birdhouse and specifically Frankie! My friend initially recommended The Birdhouse to me and for my first appointment, I made it with a random stylist. That stylist turned out to be Frankie and she handled my extremely long hair like the absolute pro she is. I was nervous about going shorter because I do a lot of training and need to be able to put my hair up/get it out of my face and she completely respected that. Since that first appointment, I have specifically made appointments with Frankie and driven from the Philly area where I live JUST to get my hair cut by her. I recently just had her cut my hair again to the shortest it has ever been and she did an absolutely​ amazing job and I'm obsessed! I cannot say enough great things about Frankie and how comfortable she makes you feel in the chair and how she listens to exactly what you want and doesn't go overboard. She has an incredibly bubbly personality and will go above and beyond to give you exactly what you want with whatever type of cut or colour you are looking for! I had a long-term relationship with a fabulous stylist in the UK. I was extremely nervous to get my haircut in NY as I was convinced no one could do as good of a job cutting my hair. I randomly booked with Frankie last Thursday as I was in dire need of a cut and I am SO GRATEFUL to have stumbled upon her. Not only do I love the shape of the cut, but it has such bounce & body. My hair is quite thick so it needs to be trimmed down considerably which she did beautifully. She was so patient and walked me through every step of the haircut and constantly assured that it was up to my standard. Can we talk about Frankie and how immaculate she is when it comes to hair!!! This place is exquisite but she is beyond that! ! I've been going to Frankie for the last couple of years and I can say I've never left disappointed. My hair comes out flawless and exactly how I want it. Frankie is extremely skilled and makes you feel comfortable. I never write reviews, but I just had to! I love Melody, and I love my haircut! After my hair stylist left the city, I had been struggling to find a stylist who understands my hair (according to numerous hair stylists, my hair can be quite difficult because they are thick and I have a lot of them). About 6 months ago, a hair stylists near my apartment in Chelsea, and he literally butchered it and charged tons of money for it. I looked like a Japanese high school girl (think Marie Kondo), and was extremely upset. I honestly didn't know how anyone could fix it with, but Melody was able to work her magic on my hair. AND I LOVE MY HAIR CUT!!! I love looking at the mirror because my hair works now. :) It takes about an hour to get to the Bird House from my apartment, but I am totally sold.
