If you happen to be on Ventura Blvd and are looking for a place to welcome you in like family, all the while training you to defend yourself, then head to Studio City Martial Arts. In the time I attended classes here I learned a lot about the culture and art behind this amazing style of Tai Jutsu. Sensai Brian is very knowledgeable about the culture and customs and will have you feeling comfortable with them in no time! I loved every minute I got to spend with the staff and whenever I am back in L.A. you better believe you will see me in one of the drop in classes they offer!  Definitely 5 star service all around! This is forever my Dojo! More...

The best best thing to happen to our family this year was joining Studio City Martial Arts!!! Our 9 year old son was asking for karate classes yet was very worried about starting out as a complete beginner. Everyone at this dojo has been more than welcoming from day 1! Both Sensei Ron and Sensei Brian have taught our son so much! He is a much more confident and happy boy since starting here. Keelia has been so kind and understanding and makes SCMA feel like home for for all who attend classes here (and their families as well)! More...

Trained here as a kid/teenager back in the late 90's, under Sensei Chad and Senpai Brian. They still around? I walked away around 16 years old, one rank away from achieving my black belt and have always regretted it. Strongly considering coming back. Glad to know this place is still around. No frills training and the muscle memory from most of what I've learned is still there, 20 years later.Great school. More...

Sensei Brian is amazing! He is dedicated to the kids and their individual success.  Kids are not only taught martial arts but are also taught lessons on self-confidence. They set their own goals at the beginning of their belt training. One of my son's goals was to stop looking in the mirror during trading . He wanted to focus more on his technique and less at how he looked. Little lessons with big value.  Miss Keelia is sweet and always there to encourage the kids. The staff was friendly and the dojo is welcoming. My son has been going for over six years.  The Best Martial Arts Studio in the San Fernando Valley. More...

Training here for a few months after looking around the valley for other options, and I really enjoy this place. It's definitely all about helping you reach your full potential in the art, taking the time to make sure you understand the moves and learn them properly. As a woman, I've been to some studios that weren't really friendly to women, so I should also note, this one is very friendly to kids and women, which makes the learning environment better for someone like me who is looking for positivity and focus! Price is reasonable for the LA area, which makes it very doable to take class regularly (there were some other places around that I've practiced at that I could tell were trying to rip me off, but never felt that way here). As far as the art itself, it's a mix of a number of different influences, which also makes it great for someone like me who enjoys learning new things as I go along. Definitely be prepared to learn falling/rolling and self defense, along with the punching/kicking that so often takes center stage in martial arts. Great studio and glad I'm a part of it! More...

My son is semi autistic and doesn't like to leave the house at all. Two years ago I signed him up here to be trained by the head sensei Angel. ..I can't believe the difference that he has made in our lives. My son begs me to take him early and pick him up late for his classes. Two years ago he had no athletic ability at all, and today his jutsu is fairly strong. Thank you SCMA, and more importantly, thank you Angel. The patience and kindness he has shown my son are worth more than any amount of money to me and my family. If I could, I would rate 8/8. We recently moved to the area and wanted to continue my sons martial arts classes as he loved his prior instructors. We have been attending for about 6 months and this dojo is THE ONE!  I couldn't be more pleased with the instructors and staff, thus far it has been a great experience.  Right now he is attending once a week and loves coming to the class. Their sensei is very knowledgable and excellent with the kids. We love it here! More...

I brought my son to this dojo about a year ago and it is the BEST decision I have made as his mother! My son, who is now 8 years old, is afflicted with high-functioning Autism, also known as Aspberger's. The symptoms of my son's condition are obvious in ways that he is very timid, has low muscle tone, and has been the perfect target for bullies. I want my son to have the self confidence to know he can do anything he wants in life and not be afraid or feel inferior. The very first day that I brought him to the dojo here at Studio City Martial Arts, I was pleasantly surprised that this was not another studio that's just herding kids in for the money. The two week FREE lessons aside, I can't say enough about the staff at this dojo! The Program Director, Jennifer, is a major asset to the flow of this happy home. Not only is she a skilled black belt in this art, but she has also been educated in child development. As I sit in on both classes my son has during the week, I have had the pleasure of watching her assist in the classroom and many times dealing with my son and other very young children who at times can be a little unfocused. She is very good at being consistent with the teachings and expectations of the dojo. It may seem harsh to watch your 60 pound baby doing push-ups for forgetting his shirt or book, but, if you let the professionals do what they have been trained to do....you and your child will be so proud of who they become in so little time. Now, as for the Sensei, well I am almost at a loss for words because he has changed my son's life! I brought in this 7 year old boy who had no self confidence in his ability to be good at any physical activity, didn't socialize easily, and was also in need of a good male role model. WOW!!! Sensei Cody is sensitive, patient, kind, funny, fun, yet firm when necessary. He is consistent in his teachings with all of the children and they are all his favorites. Most importantly, I have had the pleasure of watching him teach so many young people and he has their respect, admiration and love! If you are considering a place to take your child to help them build a stronger inner and outer self, this is THE place! Arigato Gozaimashita Sensei and Senpai!    Jennifer Haaland More...

My daughter has been training here for nearly two years and LOVES it! She comes twice a week and never tires of it. Her instructor (or "sensei") is the real deal - professional and precise yet warm, supportive, and fun. As a white belt the student will learn basic rolls, stances, and simple Japanese terms (some which my daughter was able to use when we visited Japan!). As the students progress through the belts they will learn more complex moves, learn to throw "stars" (light-weight star-shaped discs) with accuracy, and work with "swords" (covered with foam). Many times at the end of class they will play games that are wildly fun yet teach at the same time. For instance, they will divide into two teams and have to tag each other with stars until only one person is left from a team, which helps them practice aim and dodging, but it's also a blast. The students are supportive of one another and are very welcoming to newcomers. It's a wonderful group! But this dojo is not just for kids - adults train here too, and I keep threatening to start up myself :-)  Since you get a few sample classes before signing up, I highly recommend checking this place out. I have been desperately trying to get my ten year old son involved with some sort of physical activity and he tried a private session and here and LOVED it! !!!!  Then he went for a group lesson and was hooked.  The general atmosphere is very professional, organized, structured and clean... HOWEVER---  the staff is also very supportive and nurturing at the same time.  The instructors truly made a concerted effort to make my son feel like he truly belongs.  The other students were all welcoming and applauded.  If your child is seeking a martial arts studio where all the students are motivated to soar then this is the dojo for you!!  If you are interested in a dojo that emphasizes patience, focus, attention, tolerance, and team work than this is the dojo for you.Come to think of it I may just sign up for some of the adult classes because it DOES look like THAT MUCH fun!!!See YOU at the dojo!
