SmartDesign is a design-build and development firm based in New York City. We handle every aspect of the design and construction process from the architecture to the final finishes. I wanted to leave a review after my renovation is done but I need to say this right now: I’m grateful to have you guys, Alan and Johnny, to walk me through my decision process.
It’s a very stressful process when dealing with a strict co-op, a tight budget and taking care of toddlers, lol.
Johnny was quick to respond with clear instructions and very kind and understanding of my situation. Alan was very open-minded, positive, beyond patient and honest with me. They were LISTENING to every detail I shared. Their sense of urgency and sincerity are qualities hard to find nowadays. If you are looking for a team to work in your renovation project, give SmartDesign a call.
In my specific circumstances, I decided to work with an architect team that had experience dealing with my particular co-op and building’s architect. It wasn’t an easy decision since SmartDesign has an outstanding portfolio; they even provided references without being asked.

An experienced designer does not impose any style onto a client. A great designer is able to take a clients wants, needs, and vision and enhance it to highest level. Design is a collaborative process between the clients life and vision, and a designers experience, resources, and eye for detail.
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 2015. Our company was started in New York City and we now have offices and operations in Southern California covering Santa Barbara and the Greater Los Angeles area.
