I have been taking my dog Goose to SMS starting in Portland in 2021 and now to this location since June of 2023. First, on the program as a whole. I was very apprehensive about an e-collar at first, but it has been exactly the tool we needed. Goose was a rescue and was very aggressive and reactive toward other dogs and no amount of treats or praise would detract her from that. This training has made walks so much more enjoyable for both of us, given her much more freedom, and strengthened our relationship. She gets excited when I bring her collar out, knowing that she is going to work and get to do something fun and engaging whether that be around the house or out and about. Second, this location. The transition to transfer over was seamless and the trainers have been extraordinarily helpful. The free group classes for life are so valuable and help Goose keep up on her training. She has gone from not being able to be a block away from a dog without barking and lunging to practicing off leash in a room full of 10+ dogs. Nicole and Ed both manage to keep a room full of often reactive/ anxious dogs under control and create an environment where everyone can practice and work on their skills regardless of what level that may be at. I have personally watched other owners and dogs join group class after the training program and go from being no more than 6 feet from other dogs to integrated into the class within a matter of weeks. I'm very thankful to SMS and this location for helping me and Goose enjoy life and training much more! More...

This company uses public parks and thoroughfares paid for by taxpayers to generate their profit, which is not okay, and illegal without a permit. I witnessed that this company, a part of normal operations, will assemble approximately 10 customers and 10 dogs, and then have them all walk across the street to START training non-compliant dogs, and hmans that can't contol their pets, to obey. Once they cross the busy street, avoiding crosswalks, they enter a public park where the dogs proceed to defecate, spreading feces and urine all over the park/ball fields. The grass and ball fields are all treated with herbicides routinely. Herbicides are harmful to mammals, particularly those that might like to chew on grass. Pets that wallow or tread in the grass pick up herbicides and fertilizers and take them back home, distributing these harmful chemicals until they are washed. The county often puts up signs WARNING of the Chemical contamination, advising the PUBLIC (and TAXPAYERS) to avoid the area. Yet these folks appear not to share this info with the customers that they lead into these areas. Next, we observe this business further abuses the rules by having all of the customers and all of the dogs line up and walk up and down the multi-use BIKE PATH, which is public land whose creation and upkeep is funded by taxpayer money and the local government. The paved Bike Path frequently includes reckless E-bike users as well as people riding motorcycles and even MINIVANS and 4-wheeler ATVs (see 3 publicly available police reports filed in 2023). The very fact that training is needed for these dogs attests to the fact that they do not yet obey and that they cannot be trusted to react properly when fast-moving bikes approach en masse. THIS IS A LEGAL LIABILITY FOR THE BUSINESS. As a result, you have MANY pedestrians using the path to commute (including illegal minivans, motorcycles, and quad 4-wheelers), and the routine line of 25 mammals is rarely single-file despite trying - again you have 10 untrained dogs with 10 untrained owners on a 6-foot wide path with pedestrians using a variety of modes of transportation, all moving quickly and different directions, yet expect that these untrained mammals have full control from the start. They would not be there is they were already under control. After all, the VERY NAME of the BUSINESS acknowledges failure to comply and the need for corrective behavioral training, so then why have the owners decided it's okay to run their business in public parks, on public paths, on public land? Profit motive? I have repeatedly come close to running over both dog and owner when the dog bolts as bikes approach. I have repeatedly had to come to an ABRUPT full stop because Sit Means Sit is INEFFECTIVE and the dogs freak out because they are overwhelmed with all the other dogs and people and moving traffic and street crossings etcetera. Have I mentioned the FECES that kept appearing on the bike path this summer, exactly where these folks have decided to hold their animal training classes, right there on the bike path, right there in the park, on public land, for which the INTENDED PURPOSE is travel, not dog training or fecal art? Why have I not once witnessed the feces being removed from the park once deposited? We demand that the BUSINESS acquire its OWN ASSETS to use for generating profit and stop using the assets we pay for. We request that Sit Means Sit, the business, STOP using public land, public parks, and the public bike path as the assets used to generate profit for your private business...unless you want to share the profit with taxpayers, whose land you are using. Thanks. Please cleanup after your sessions. More...

Sit Means Sit Denver and my vet are the two reasons I was able to keep my rescue pup, Roxy. I was really struggling with her health issues and then a sudden start of reactivity issues and lunging/pulling on leash at squirrels, skateboards, and rollerblades. After breaking up a few dogfights, I knew quickly that I needed more help than basic Petsmart training could give her.A fellow owner recommended Sit Means Sit to me, and it was the best decision I could have made. I met with Nicole in our free consultation, and her confidence in my dog's potential and robust information about the program sold me pretty quickly. I had never used an e-collar before, and Nicole dispelled a lot of myths that I had heard - and the results speak for themselves, as my dog is becoming a safe, respectful, confident, and responsive canine citizen with it. I learned that the word "shock collar" is misleading and frankly an outdated term to use - Nicole had me feel the sensation, and it's more like a muscle stimulator you would use at physical therapy. And you don't use it for punishment - it's a consistent way of communicating with your dog. Nicole has been an incredible resource, her guidance and training has been an absolute gamechanger for my dog and I. We started with private lessons (those alone started helping pretty quickly), and now we attend group class every Saturday which has been AWESOME - plus, the unlimited group classes are an incredible deal! We've been with Sit Means Sit for about 3 months now, and Roxy is a different dog! She's confident, 100% more responsive to me, checks in with me on her own when we're out and about - and seems so much happier with the more structured everyday guidance and communication that Sit Means Sit helps me give her. Our relationship has improved too! Before I started here, and even in the first few weeks, I'd had those niggling thoughts wondering if I could keep her - I was brand new to Denver with a large new dog that was described to me as healthy and easygoing, but was very much none of those things. And while I understand you never truly know with a new dog, it was a lot. I haven't had those thoughts in quite some time now thanks to this program! Highly recommend. If you're hesitant about the e-collar or Sit Means Sit - get informed! It changed mine and my pup's life. More...

Sit Means Sit was such a fantastic experience for us. We had our consultation with Ed, who patiently explained what the program will entail. We sent our 8mo lab in for a 1 week board & train. My expectations were fairly low because I didn't think a week could fix the craziness we were experiencing (jumping on strangers, leash pulling, not listening at all to her commands, general puppiness). I was wrong! One week with SMS and she came back a completely new gal. She's super obedient, a lot more calm, listens when her e-collar isn't on as well as when it is, and just generally is a joy to be around. It's a major investment, and I look forward to working more with SMS to hone in on some of those smaller things, but totally 100% worth it for a lifetime of good doggo behavior. More...

I love my dog and want the best for him as most owners do. Milo is 2 and a half years old. After a long time of being a wonderfully friendly dog who was great with other dogs both on and off leash some concerning behaviors surfaced. Mostly severe leash aggression, pulling and overstimulation at the dog park that led to fights. After a few weeks of trying to "fix it" myself with positive reinforcement and treats I realized I wasn't able to offer consistent expectations without being trained myself and I needed help.
I found the "treat" system to be quite unsuccessful, for my 90lb dog, a squirrel is a much more delicious treat than whatever I had on hand. Away we would go at his discretion with me begging him to stop and simultaneously being dragged along in his bad behavior. His leash reactivity to other dogs and distractions deterred me from giving him the proper exercise and socializing due to anxiety about "what could happen" and I knew I needed to make a change.
After much research I decided to go with Sit Means Sit (the fact that it came HIGHLY recommended from a friend with a giant mastiff also helped).
I knew I needed help with my big "bad" dog so nothing bad happened to either of us and the rest of our lives together could be more than just stressful, quick walks. The dog loves to explore, swim and play and he deserves to do so in a productive manner.
Sit means sit has been incredible. Two of the three full day sessions in and I swear they swapped him out for a well behaved clone but more seriously, his behavior has 180-ed. Ed and Anthony have been so patient with us both and really changed not only his behavior but my entire thinking about the relationship I have with my dog and how to best manage it. I see him looking to me on walks for affirmation that his behavior is what I expect and want (amazing), he and I are both happier and we are having a great time! I look forward to walks, runs, the dog park... yes I said it the dog park where I feared going in the past... (I would drive by to make sure no one was there) and our future together.
Sit means sit gives us coaching at each session, collar & lifestyle recommendations for more successful walking and guidance, and follow up! He plays with the other dogs there and at the dog park productively and we can't wait to attend group sessions!
Thank you Anthony, Ed and all of Sit Means Sit, from both of us. More...

The Sit Means Sit system might work well for some dogs, but it did not work well for our four small dogs. The shock collars terrified our dogs so much that they would hide wherever they could to try to "get away", including hiding in our shower and climbing into built in wall shelves. We let the trainer / company know this wasn't working out for our dogs and did not finish using all of our sessions. We also requested a partial refund since we were not satisfied with the services provided, but were told that no money would be refunded. Between all of our dogs, we had spent several thousand dollars and nothing to show for it besides our poor little traumatized dogs. Again, this might work find for some folks, but we found positive reinforcement / treat training worked much better for us. Disappointing that the owner was not willing to work with us more, especially given the amount of money we invested. More...

It seems like I'm in the minority here, but just in case it helps anyone, I'll write a review anyway. I would not recommend the board and train. It is not worth the money spent. My dogs already knew the commands (although some commands got new names) and would listen to me during training sessions, just not in the real world. After 10 days of boarding, that is what they still do. Outside of a training environment, they're a little better, but not $3300 better (collar and program). They still pull on the leash enough to make walking them unpleasant. My one dog does come better, but not a ton better. My other dog's concerning behavior does stop with the collar, but it stopped with me calling his name prior to this training. Perhaps if your dog hasn't had any training at all, this would be beneficial, but if your dog already knows the commands and just isn't listening to you, then I wouldn't recommend this. In the follow-up class, they indicated that the dogs were ready for group because they know the commands...that just made me feel like I wasted my money since my dogs knew the commands before going anywhere. I especially wouldn't recommend this if you are one person with multiple dogs. All of the training sessions are combined and it's hard to give them individual attention. Also, my dogs seem very fearful of the collar. They hate having it put on and training is not a pleasant experience for them. I want it to be fun for them, not a punishment. I'm sure the response is going to be the same as it has for the few other negative reviews: this isn't for everyone, so make sure this is the right thing for your dog before you spend the money. If you have any doubts at all don't do it. She loves to chase and nip at the kiddos, jump on you, tear around the house and chew on everything, even items nailed down (baseboards). It was when she started opening doors and tearing up screen doors, I decided I needed help. We seriously thought that Sit means Sit would tell us, no thanks, there’s no hope. During our initial meeting Mati had Catalina working, it was amazing! I signed up for the week long bootcamp. Catalina has only been home two days and it’s like she’s a different dog. She still needs work but she understands and quickly responds! I can’t express how happy I am with her training! Mati and crew, you rock it AND they taught me how to properly trim her nails ???? I highly recommend these folks! This picture is of Catalina during our walk, off leash sitting until I call her while the path and houses around her were filled with noise and activity. My brother swears we stuffed her and are faking these pictures ???? More...

My family and I had a great experience! Mati was an amazing dog trainer- hands on & very helpful in the whole process. Rosie is like a new pup; we all feel like we have way more control over her then when we first walked in the door! More...

I wouldn’t say we had “a bad dog” when we decided to look into sit means sit but I would say we had a dog that had split personalities, angel and devil. We rescued a beautiful ten month old male Shepard mix in March who took a few weeks to show his true self. Our new fur kid was pretty chill but sometimes out of the blue turned into Wiley the coyote after three Red Bull’s. Cosmo would chase our boys and their friends wanting to play by nipping them. He has chewed through everything including three dog beds. He was reactive on the leash...that’s an understatement actually he would looks his marbles if other dogs appeared (not aggressive but obsessive), if he saw bunnies, bikers, runners. We have had dogs all our lives and yet we couldn’t train this dog. We tried in home Training, dog park groups, books, YouTube. Nothing was working. A seven day board and train with sit mean sit along with our daily commitment to our guy has given our family this beautiful well mannered and still quirky dog who has rescued us during a difficult personal year. Sit means sit has answered every question we had before, during, and after our board and train. Giving us a customized plan to fit our dog and our family through their core values. We loved the facility, our trainer Mati, the other employees at sit means sit, and we will use them for all our future fur kids. More...

Sit Means Sit has been such a blessing. Before sending Miska to a 7 day board and train she was a little scared of other dogs (due to being attacked twice), she was a "runner", and she had a stubborn tendency. She was not a horrible dog by any means, but she definitely wasn't perfect. When I picked her up from her stay at SMS I really hoped the results would be worth the price ($$$$). I was/am not disappointed, to say the least!!! Miska has a new found sense of confidence, amazing manners, and can be trusted off leash at all kinds of places. She is so proud of herself and I can tell she really likes the training- which was my #1 priority. I didn't want SMS to put her in any pain with the e-collar or break her spirit, and it didn't! I think the whole SMS process has been about 20x harder for me than her. I hated sending her away, I had to learn how to better communicate with her, and I have had to work on integrating training into our daily routine. But the entire SMS team has walked me through the process and answered all my questions. The results have been SO worth the financial, time, and emotional investment. Ed, Anthony, and all of the SMS team- THANK YOU! I'm excited to continue working with you for the lifetime of Miska. :) More...

Very professional and accommodating. We are happy with the result of our dogs training at the center. My wife and I have cane corso with a serious issue of aggression toward people and other dogs. I did not think the program would work with him after so long trying by other dog trainers and other system. We are impressed with Anthony and staff's skill and the theory behind the program with understanding in the nature of dogs. It is ongoing progress and controlling our Cane corso's behavior. We have our second dog Bulldog, pitball mixed is in the same training now. More...

Just several weeks ago my fiancé and I moved with our two dogs from Texas to Denver! We have two goofy golden retriever pups that loved people and did well in our big Texas house with our big Texas yard. I began practicing practicing leash walking to prepare for our transition to an urban apartment in LoHi. I quickly realized that our dogs needed some big help. Dallas was anxious and hyper. Yeti had leash aggression towards other big dogs. I had done months of clicker and positive reinforcement training. This really improved their inside manners but I still couldn’t seem to get their attention with distractions, especially walks. I walked them daily for months and was told by a trainer “they just may never be able to interact with other dogs on leash”. This made me feel completely defeated and nervous for our journey. On the drive with the dogs from Texas to Colorado, Dalls cried the entire 13 hours on and off. Yeti lurched and growled at 3 other dogs in the hotel. They were miserable and nervous. I was terrified and exhausted. How was I going to walk both of these dogs daily while my fiancé travels? I desparately called Anthony at sit means sit. I was initially apprehensive about SMS. I was misinformed that it was a “shock collar treatment”. They showed me how the collars are a way for us to communicate with them. I tried it on myself and it felt similar to a TENS or E-Stim unit I would use on my patients as a physical therapist. The dogs have been doing the “Day Training” program, where they go for an intensive day once a week and I work with them throughout the week on the skills. Ed and Anthony have been so available and helpful throughout this journey. They make huge changes with the dogs when they are at the facility, and walk me through strategies when I have the dogs at home. It has definitely been hard work on our end but completely worth it. We have had one full day of training and one week of daily at home practice. I can confidently walk my dogs on a leash around other dogs and distractions. And the dogs LOVE it. Finally walks are enjoyable and not stressful for us. Yesterday I took both dogs to the park by myself. Which is something that was once terrifying for me. It is a dream come true. We still have lots of work to do to get them 100% off leash. But this 1 week has been a night and day difference. Thank you sit means sit! Our dogs (and us) now love their Colorado life. More...
