I can't recommend George of Ruff and Ready Canine enough! It would be hard to find someone who is as passionate about dogs and dog training. George was serious, professional, and excellent at communicating with us to create a perfectly tailored plan. This service is WAY worth the price. Don't hesitate to book George! More...

George Leonard of Ruff and Ready Canine is truly the best of the best. I was referred to George by Kim Hawkins of Howl to the Chief and Rural Dog Rescue. George has been working with us and our newly rescued Australian Cattle Dog for a month an a half. Having a dog who was 100% not bred for the city has made their needs unique and challenging. Throughout our training and boarding with George, it is clear George is extremely well-versed in the science and research behind dog behavior, but also has amazing emotional intelligence that played into their strengths as a trainer. The way George works with both the humans and dogs is truly one of a kind and effective. In the time we have worked with George, our communication has improved leaps and bounds, his anxiousness and nervous habits have all but disappeared, and we have both found comfort in our training accomplishments and goals. As George says training is forever and always, and we plan on having George around for all of it! More...

I want to very highly recommend George Leonard of Ruff and Ready Canine for your doggy-training needs. George has been working with us and Jake for the last several months on a number of things ranging from anxiety-induced destruction, leash aggression, and crate training and the results are astounding. We'd worked with a couple other trainers early on after adopting Jake, but they simply didn't have the natural ability or understanding of dogs that George clearly demonstrates as a dog trainer. Prior to each lesson George sent us some pre-work to let us know what we'd be working on. Every time George came to our home we started with a discussion of Jake's behavior, what's been working or not, and what we were going to target that day. Following each lesson George sent a long email with homework and guidance for what we should focus on with Jake between our visits. Honestly, I'm not sure that Jake would still be around if George hadn't helped us learn how to help Jake be a better dog. Whether you've got a new puppy, a new rescue, or an old dog (Jake is 9 and he has most definitely learned some new tricks over the last few months), I can not recommend George and Ruff and Ready highly enough. George is wonderful! My dog has a general anxiety problem that also led to her guarding the door of our house pretty ferociously. Even after just a couple of sessions with George, my dog is doing so much better. George worked with us during sessions and also on a plan for how to keep progressing during the week and in our regular life schedule that has already totally decreased the door guarding, but also the anxiety more generally. George is knowledgable and great and wonderful to work with for both the human clients and the canine clients, and my dog Ovi and I both highly recommend!!! More...

I have worked with a lot of trainers, and George is easily the best I have ever worked with. George helped me with a problem several other trainers had failed to fix; my pit bull's high prey drive to squirrels and small dogs. With George's help, we were finally able to get my dog to walk by them calmly, thank god because we see a lot of them in the city! Beyond that, George took a great all-around approach, helping me see how my day-to-day interactions with my dog affect her behavior in more intense situations (like when prey drive kicks in). I am forever grateful for all that George taught me. If you are serious about training your dog, there is not better place to go! More...

I can't recommend Ruff and Ready enough. George was incredibly helpful with the 60+ lbs teen American bulldog my fiancé and I fostered. George had been working with our foster dog before we got him, and we were amazed at how well trained the dog was. George helped us understand the training and have the skills to reinforce it so our foster dog could be his best self and find a forever home. Our dog who'd passed away was a senior, small deaf terrier mix, so having a big American bulldog in his teens was something very new to us, and George was absolutely fantastic in teaching us how to continue working with the dog. George spent more than 1.5 hours the day we first received our foster dog going over all the basics until we were confident we had the fundamentals down. We also had several super helpful training sessions at our home so we could practice how to correctly enforce the training in various scenarios and locations. George answered each of my long, rambly, nervous emails with patience, kindness, encouragement and a deep understanding of my questions.George has an incredible ability to not just train dogs well, but train *us* as their human caretakers,  which I realized through this process is just as essential. George was really great at teaching me in a way that was consistent, motivating, and easy to understand. I was nervous because looking after and training a large powerful dog can be pretty intimidating when you have no previous experience, but George equipped me with the tools and knowledge necessary to do so and was always very responsive to email and phone calls when I had any questions or concerns. It can be an adjustment to follow a training "regimen" when you never have before, (e.g., using a prong collar) and it's easy to think the discipline is not what dogs want or need. That said, George taught me how critical it is for some dogs (e.g. a large bully breed), and how that's what our foster dog needed to be safe and be his best self and get the home he deserved. Trust me, the foster dog utterly LOVED George, who always knew how to balance correcting negative behavior, positive reinforcement, and play time. The time and dedication George has put into this dog in need of a home is admirable and says a lot about George's love of dogs and generous heart. We are forever grateful for all the training and encouragement we received, and for all George has done and continues to do for foster dogs. We will absolutely go to Ruff And Ready again when we get another dog, and I highly recommend you do the same, no matter what type of dog you have, even if it's just for a consultation session - it will change your life, and your dog's life, for the better.
