New Avenue Studio

With a strong background in Hospitality (Hotel) Design, and Hi-End Residential, I've become sort of a chameleon in regards to catering to the client. My role is to listen to the client, and use key information to apply to my career knowledge and vast skill set to create that special environment. I have an appreciation for traditional elements, but certainly love the mix and interesting flair that can be created when modern, clean lines are introduced. By use of colors and materials, the same furniture body could take on a new life. I want the interiors I design to be comfortable and inviting for the client - whether that means I have a minimalist approach to the space, a layered and eclectic aesthetic, transitional, industrious, rustic, or a soft earthy & quiet interior. By finding the key material or image to launch the design, I put a different hat on (so to speak) that will bring the design to reality. I appreciate my up bringing in a small country town, and having lived the last 15 years in the city, to round out my design skills and aesthetic.

I love taking the job from initial concepts and conversations, to working with the trades in the field, to the final install and reveal. Seeing the creation come to life is a rewarding feeling. Working with the clients and making decisions together is always an interesting process, as I'm gathering selections for client review there could be a combination of items that was not necessarily intended, but I challenge myself and make it work to bring it together. Perhaps that unintended development, makes me think outside the box even more, only to bring the design back together in an even more successful manner than I had ever imagined. Its the clients and each end everyone's own personality that gives me the joy to challenge myself as a designer everyday.

I come from a family of entrepreneurs who not only worked hard to support their own family financially, but more importantly were there to support one another at any given time of day. The flexibility of owning your own business is appealing, but I still work hard - nights and weekends - to make it right. I was taught from a young age that you have to work for what you really want despite there being hard days, but if you stick with it there will be good days and there will be even greater days ahead. And, eventually things will start to fall into place and make sense of why you worked hard. I want to make sure I can be there for my family to help them and support them in their every day, as I had experienced growing up.

I listen, I genuinely care about my clients and the project, and I'm determined. I think interaction with the clients is important to make sure the project is on the right path, and there are no surprises at the end of the process. I will 'wear many hats' to get the job done, and will always find a way to figure it out if I have not encountered it before. My career has brought be to many new projects, and I've met many people (clients and trades-alike) and I think we can all learn from each other to better the outcome of the design. I think collaboration is very important to a successful project.
