We have had Mr. D’s Construction do several jobs for us on two different houses. We have always been very pleased with their work and highly recommend them. I hired Mr. D's Construction upon discussing my plans to upgrade my home. Don listened to my plan and gave suggestions on things that hadn't come to mind. Don wasn't pushy and understood that I needed to do this upgrade in stages. The guys that work for his company are very reliable, careful, neat and work well in unison to complete the job on time. Mr. D’s previously painted the exteriors of two of our homes. We bought our current home well aware that it needed a lot of updating. We called Don for an estimate to start the updates by removing the popcorn ceiling texture and painting the exterior, living/dining room and the master bedroom. Don promptly responded to my request for an estimate.

While he was here, I asked him to also work up estimates for a down-to-the-studs new kitchen and master bathroom. Thanks to resources such as Houzz, we generally knew what we wanted, and Don and head builder Ruben added helpful suggestions. Don sent back proposals promptly and the numbers were good.

We accepted the painting proposal first. I work from home so I could tell the painters Ariel and Jose worked well together and took great pains to do an excellent job. They were courteous, carefully protected our belongings, and left things tidy at the end of each day. (That turned out to be true of the entire crew. Even our neighbors commented favorably on the crew.) Seeing the painters work to get things perfect, we decided to accept Mr. D’s proposals for our kitchen and master bath.

Mr. D’s was able to handle whatever this old house threw at them. For example, there was quite a bit of termite damage and wood rot in the eaves, patio cover, and part of a big beam. Ruben, Will, Scott & crew handled it. Their electrical subcontractor replaced the heirloom electric panel and the kitchen’s aluminum wiring. Mr. D's also updated our guest bathroom (because the other updates made it look so bad!) with drywall repair, retexture and paint (I tore off most but not all of the vintage wallpaper), new showerhead, faucets and counter top, and beautifully refinished the existing cabinet (thank you, Jose!). Mr. D’s also installed items that we provided, such as light fixtures, mailbox, hall bath mirror and medicine cabinet.

Don referred us to a window & doors guy who did a terrific affordable job for us. The nicest counter guys in San Diego did the shower stall and master and hall bath counters and sinks. And the kitchen and master bath cabinets by the sub? Worth every dollar--especially the soft-close hinges and lacquer finish.

Mr. D’s redid almost the whole house (the laundry room was semi-OK as is) because we liked their work, we couldn’t do as nice a job ourselves, and frankly, we didn’t want to live through more remodeling in a few years. It’s done now—woo hoo!

As to timing, if my notes are correct, Will & Mike started demoing the master bath on April 30, the kitchen demo was on May 14, and everything was done by July 3. There were a few glitches and a lot of dust but it was all worth it in the end. We’re very pleased about the outcome. Mr. D’s can be proud of their work.

One general comment about Don, Ruben and crew – no matter what came up, they had a terrific “can-do” attitude, good ideas, workable charges, and the know-how, resources and high standards to do the work right in a timely manner.

One more thing – on the punch list day, Scott mentioned that they fixed something they’d accidentally broken. I hadn’t noticed it but they fixed it because they knew it wasn’t right. How’s that for integrity?! More...

I had Mr D's replace all my old interior doors with new six panel doors. I was considering Lowe's and Home Depot, but didn't get a good feel when talking with the sales people, and some of the restrictions if you went outside the box on their standard install. I read some good reviews about Mr D's so decided to go with him. Am I happy I did! His crew did a very high quality job, with excellent workmanship. We highly recommend Mr. D’s Construction Services. Owner, Don, Project Manager Ruben, their crew and subcontractors were professional, friendly, and efficient. Don took on our project after our first contractor was a no show and our structural engineer was being difficult. Based on this experience, Don reassured us and took steps to make us comfortable with the process. He also worked with the City for permit purposes. I also liked that he answered the phone when I called, came to look at our project the next day and provided a reasonable estimate within one week. He also kept us informed and communicated daily when a lot was happening. Ruben was friendly and accommodating and could do anything. He was so knowledgeable and we never worried that things were being done right.

Work done included opening up the wall between the kitchen and dining room, tearing down the kitchen including soffit, complete kitchen remodel, flooring, baseboard, kitchen backsplash, drywall and painting, installing new windows, stucco, installing a new sliding glass door, lights, ceiling fan, new sink with faucet and appliances.

Don Martin, Project Manager Ruben and crew are top notch and we would recommend them wholeheartedly.  We had problems with our original contractor and engineer, but Don went out of his way to reassure me and he stepped in and took over meeting with the engineer and City staff for permitting.  He saved me valuable time and money.  At the beginning of my project, Don answered the phone and came to visit the next day.  He provided an estimate in a timely manner.  During the project, Don and Ruben kept me informed on a daily basis as to scheduled work and progress.   I could not have asked for a better company and experience and we are thrilled with our new kitchen and dining room.  You will love working with this positive, dedicated, and efficient group. My husband and I hired Mr. D's to paint the interior of our house. When I called in July, the company was about a month backlogged due to the summer rush, so I made an appointment

for August in the case the I couldn't find another painter within that time frame. After getting several estimates from other painters, my husband and I still couldn't decide on a company until we got our estimate from Mr. D's.

Don personally came to our house and we instantly clicked - he was extremely friendly and had a lot of knowledge about paint. He came back within a few days with a reasonable estimate and we scheduled a week for the paint. Since we wanted to paint our ceilings in addition to the walls, we were given an estimate of about 5 days. The Friday before his team was supposed to begin, he scheduled a walk through with his lead, Ariel, to walk through the house and tell us how to prepare everything for painting (i.e. move everything to the center of the room, empty the closets, etc.). During the walk through, we also confirmed the paint color (Bravo Blue from Sherwin Williams) and he suggested the best white to match our color. Until I looked at the white section, I did not realize how many whites there were to choose from, so it was nice to get an expert's recommendation on which white would look best with our color (and it looks fantastic!).

My parents helped us with staying at the house to keep the painting crew company. Although they said they would be there around 7 AM, most days they came closer to 8 AM. This was probably due to morning traffic. They were typically at the house until 4 PM / 5 PM and took a 1 hour lunch break, which allowed my parents to have a break as well to grab something to eat.

A majority of the ceiling labor went towards covering everything in plastic. The painting crew did a great job of ensuring everything was covered and were able to spray almost all the ceilings by the first day - they worked really fast. We had to vacate the house during this time, but had forgotten our suitcase among all of the other things we had stacked in the middle of the room, so my husband can attest that their plastic job was fantastic - he had a hard time getting through it and none of our stuff had paint on it.

The rest of the rooms were done over the next 3 days - they got the master room done first, but even though it was a low odor paint, it still had a slight, unpleasant odor, so we opted to stay at my parent's house the 2nd and 3rd nights, just in case. I was really excited about the color - initially I thought it was too blue (especially compared with the light mint green the walls used to be), but over time, I have come to fall in love with it. I can especially tell that the white paint used for the ceilings is a perfect match.

The only con that really didn't bother me were the little paint splatters in the bathrooms and light switches. I know that paint gets everywhere, so I wasn't surprised, but my husband found it a little annoying. I was able to get most of the splatter out using a sponge, warm water, and all purpose cleaner though, so it really isn't a big deal, especially considering the entire house looks amazing with the fresh coat of paint.

The best part about going with Mr. D's was their willingness to fix the requests - after the 3rd day, my parents and I did a quick walk through of the work to see what had been missed and started a list. I gave it to my mom so she could review with the crew while I was at work, but she left it on the table. The crew found the list and took the initiative to fix everything immediately! I was so happy that they were willing to help with some of the touch ups. They also left a ton of paint, so my husband and I will be able to touch up some of the places we missed on that walk through in the future.

Overall, I definitely recommend Mr. D's for interior paint. Their quote was extremely reasonable and included paint in the cost. A lot of the painters I got estimates from did not include paint, which I felt was really misleading on how much the entire project would cost. My family and I were so very impressed with our kitchen remodel and the quality of work that Don and his team put into our home! !! They finished on schedule and without delays. What a crew!!! I cant say enough about Don, his guys and office staff. Mr. D's Construction turned my family room and half bath into a new bedroom and full bath for my mother. Needed a full set up down stairs for her. They also tore down and rebuilt my laundry room because the previous owner did such a horrible job building it into the part of the 3rd car garage. Don was completely professional and his crews were always reliable and courteous. They were always timely and cleaned up. They even temporarily connected my washer and dryer each Friday so I could used them over the weekend. Then they moved them back out to work during the week. What a service!!! We had most of our large interior home patched and painted by Mr. D's construction and painting. They retextured most of my walls since hardly two of them matched, replaced the crown molding, and painted our two brick fireplace surrounds. I really liked the professionalism of Mr. D's Construction Services! Don itemized all the work I required for my remodel, and negotiated a very fair price that fit within my budget. We were very pleased with the work done for our home renovation by the crew of Mr. D's Construction Services . We had them remove a wall, install new doors/hardware, replace the baseboards, add window trim, remodel two bathrooms, install new lighting, and paint the interior and exterior. All of the workmen were courteous, hard-working, and knowledgeable. The bulk of the work was completed in three weeks, with no days taken off. For work that required outside vendors all of them were well-qualified. The owner, Don Martin, was responsive to our many questions and concerns. Pictures do not do this transformation justice. Mr. D and his team took this 55+ year old house and moved it into the 21st century.

Opening up the dated kitchen into the living area of the house, was the main objective of this makeover.

Walls came down, main support beam replaced, beautiful wood-like tiles throughout giving a consistent, wide-open look. Conscious of our budget, Mr. D kept the costs down by refinishing the old honey-oak kitchen cabinets into rich cherry-finished ones, adding crown molding, hardware, and custom built some new kitchen cabinetry with an identical match to the original which were over 25 years old. No one can tell the old from the new!

The Fireplace is truly a masterpiece with Spanish Marble tile and a custom surround mantle truly make this the focal point when guest arrive. Everyone says, “that mantle must have cost a fortune”; I never tell them how well Mr. D controlled that cost!

No detail was too small for the Mr. D team. From popcorn ceilings with old wobbling ceiling fans to beautifully-troweled ceilings with up-to -ate LED lighting. Electrical throughout the house is now up to code with increased outlets and new capacity to meet all modern electronic needs (some outlets accepting a USB plug directly off of my phone/ipad).

I first used Mr D's construction at my elderly mothers home on Mt Helix and it needed to be updated in order to be put on the market. Not only did Mr D's workmanship make the house look great but he had some wonderful ideas that made the house more appealing to a buyer!His crew was clean, considerate and they came in on time and on budget!
When my husband and I were ready to remodel our kitchen, scrape our ceilings, take out a wall and paint we knew exactly who to call. Mr. D goes above and beyond, from initial contact through the project and final delivery Don is there the whole way. He puts personal touches into the projects and hires only true professionals. He does what he says he will do and does not nickel and dime you like some contractors will. He even met us at Home Depot to pick out a closet kit on his own time, what a nice friendly down home touch. We will have him back again for more cool modifications to our home. Thank you! I hired Mr. D's construction to retexture, paint and add ceiling lighting to our bedrooms. I also had him install all new interior doors. Once we started I decided to add crown molding and frame out my windows. We are extremely happy with the final result. The new texture on the walls makes me want the rest of my house done. It really made a huge difference in the feel of the rooms. Unfortunately, I failed to take before pictures so posting after photos would be of no use. I now want the rest of the walls in my house retextured and am trying to scrape together some money to have my living room retextured, painted, and fireplace refaced. Mr. D's Construction team was very professional and delivered their services on time and within budget. The quality of their work was excellent.

We did a major remodel to a condo that hadn't been updated since it was built in 1981. From the start to the finish of the project, Don and his team worked with us to make sure everything was completed as expected. We are very pleased with the results and would recommend them to others. They provided suggestions we had not thought about, like re-facing the fire place and ceilings. This is the second time we have worked with Mr D and his crew. The first time was a huge job at my mothers Mt Helix home we were getting ready to put on the market. Don gave us ideas that would modernize the house and did it all quickly and within our budget. When we decided to redo our whole kitchen I knew Don and his crew were the ones I wanted to work with. He is also taking out all of our icky popcorn ceiling painting and removing a partial wall, we are in the middle of our project and our timeline is perfect plus we get checked on by Don to make sure all is well ! Mr. D's did a partial kitchen remodel for me after a leak caused some major damage to countertops, floor, and cabinets. They did a fantastic job. They were always there on time as they had committed to. They always cleaned up any mess from the days work. The workers were respectful, courteous and very easy to have around, I would recommend this company for any of your needs.
