After moving my Mom to an assisted living facility several years ago, I started using Lowcountry Companions to supplement her day-to-day care. Mom had dementia and as time progressed, so did her dementia. Regular daily tasks became increasingly more difficult for her. I experimented with various different shifts to bring individuals from Lowcountry into her apartment/room to visit with her, stimulate her, take her for walks, or just to perform various tasks for her when I couldn't be around. For the most part, I was highly satisfied with the help Mom received. The friendly staff of LC was accommodating and took the time to know Mom's personality so that the proper individuals could be assigned to help with her care. Yes, there were isolated instances when someone didn't work out (that is the case with ALL senior care companies) but overall I would HIGHLY recommend LC to anyone looking for quality in home care for their loved ones. I looked for a company like this for my mom and initially went with someone other than lowcountry companions because they were cheaper. BIG MISTAKE! Absolutely wonderful company with wonderful caregivers and management. I can honestly say I have stopped worrying about my mom when i am not with her, because i know what great a person our caregiver is. From her nurturing ways to her experience. I never write reviews, but after the holidays I realized how blessed my family has been to have Lowcountry Companions in our lives. I have to share my story so hopefully others will be able to find the help they need with the best company in Charleston.Words can't express what they have done for my mother and my family (husband and children). My mother had me late in life and is in her late 80's, while I currently have children who are ages 15 and 12. I am the only child have been responsible for my mother's well-being since mid-2007 when my father passed away. She started to become forgetful and couldn't live alone. I love my mother, but finally realized the time I was spending taking care of her was having negative affects on my health, my work, and most importantly the time I was spending with my family. I looked into moving her to a facility, but knew I did not want her living somewhere like that towards the end of her days. I found out their are companies who come into your home and help with what you cannot do. I interviewed probably 10-15. Lowcountry Companions stood out from the rest. The entire staff and specifically the lady who came and provided a "care plan" was extremely involved with the entire process. What I found that stood out from other companies was they asked what help WE needed. They didn't hand me a brochure with what they could help with around the house and tell me why I needed their help. Instead, they asked what was putting most strain on me and my family, and what assistance my mother needed to help her stay in our home and not move to a facility. We have had the same caregiver in our home from day 1. My mother has created such a bond with her she has really become part of the family. Her mood is positive most of the time, whereas she was very reserved after my father passed away. Bless Lowcountry Companions - they have been one of the best decisions I have made for my family.
