About

I’m a four-generation native of Montana. I have two adult boys and one teenage daughter which I’m learning to buckle up for a ride!

Along the way I went to three prestigious colleges and learned about the wonderful students loans. I have always lived in Montana, however, I have travelled to many places that take my breath away!

I recommend lisa for all your family photo needs. We had lisa do my daughter's maternity and new born photos. (which we have never had done before) she did an amazing job coaching us on what to do before going to the shoot to prepare for the shoot. My daughter felt very comfertable with the direction lisa gave for the photos. And we loved how they turned out. We chose the maternity and newborn shoot cause it was a great package. We brought my grand daughter for her newborn photos at Lisa home studio and loved all the peops she had. She was very gentle with the baby and took very beautiful photos of my grand daughter. Very pleased with out experiance More...

Lisa was a nice person to work with but I cannot recommend her at this time. I feel like she missed the moments that I most wanted captured (husband seeing me for the first time, ceremony, family pictures). She disregarded one of my bridesmaid’s wishes to not be touched. There were some good pictures but many were taken from too far away or half of the shot was of the wall. This is not to say that she won’t improve in time, but I feel as if we were victim to rookie mistakes (people who wore glasses have a glare over their eyes, missed me coming down the aisle, her coat in some of the shots).
There are some beautiful photos but for the price and for the lack of captured moments, I cannot recommend her.

Lisa was absolutely amazing. She was there along the first steps of planning and until the very end. She made sure that we were comfortable and got everything that we asked for . I would use her for any occasion beyond a wedding, but I must say she adds a very special touch to a very special day. Thank you Lisa! More...

Lisa and I did a branding photoshoot in Glacier National Park. I really appreciate her dedication and the vision that she had for this shoot and despite a cold windy day helped me pull off some beautiful images that I will treasure forever!

I absolutely LOVE Lisa! She has done all my family photos (which we are definitely in need of more soon :D ) and they come out beautiful each and every time. Even when my kids were being whinny, or wanting to eat, she still got gorgeous photos out of them. Plus, they took to her like a duck to water. And I've never felt overly staged or posed with her, she gets the natural beauty family shots (plus being able to get killer posed shots too!). Only photographer I'll ever go to for any photo needs. I attended the Summer Intensive this summer and it was a good alternative to attending a community college back home. At RMSP I was able to get all my learning done in 6 weeks verses a two year course. Coming into the program with several years of photography knowledge, I feel it was great at reassuring me of my preexisting knowledge as well as building on it. Only thing I wish I had know is that is is more of a beginner program for hobbyists rather than a shorter option for professionals. Having already been to a 4 year college with degrees in marketing and management and growing up with parents who own 3 small businesses, I feel the PI program was too expensive considering I already at a 4 year private college education. The Summer program is a great option for beginners wanting to start advancing their knowledge and a good lead into their PI program if you know you want to run a photography business. I also loved the opportunity I got to travel while I was out there. They encouraged day and weekend trips to practice and get out to see out west. I was able to go to Seattle and Glacier all in my 6 weeks of being in Montana!

The staff is amazing and so supportive, I do hope to attend workshops in the future and will contribute to grow as a photographer and business owner because of RMSP!

I was in the 2018 Summer Intensive program, which just finished..

I have been taking photographs for 50 years on and off as a sideline to a busy student and then professional career, first medium format film and then in the last 10 years digital. When I retired at the beginning of 2018, I was looking for a photography program that would give me a more solid grounding in fundamentals (maybe I "knew" things but were not in fact right) and also exposure (so to speak) to aspects of photography I had not tried very much (e.g., off-camera flash and night photography). SI did that very well in a reasonable period of time, in a beautiful setting with a good sized group of welcoming and enthusiastic people (instructors and students both). To give one small illustration of progress, the first week I learned about back-button focusing, which was a real advance over how I had been doing things (sorry to display my ignorance in public). And just say over and over, meter for the whites and add 2 stops.

It was fun to be with students who I didn't know before, who were almost all from somewhere else, and who had a range of backgrounds and ages (18 to 67 in our group, with everything in between). I was the only former tax lawyer in the group, for which I took some grief. You should know that tax lawyers are often called on to be creative.

SI included as a significant component critical reviews of photographs from an artistic point of view that went beyond technical photography and gear. For me, that was a new experience and quite useful.

Please note that they mean it when they say "intensive". There were a number of 12 hours days, including classes and either optional lectures at night or field shoots. They also have homework (photographs illustrating various techniques) and you have to be on time. The program is very well managed and organized and went off without any hitches (except for a noisy air conditioner). There are necessary compromises given the time constraints, but they are at least thought through.

I'm from New York City and was not able to find a comparable program there (meaning a course that was designed to be comprehensive within reason but was not a one year MFA program). It was well worth the trip.

I have found Rocky Mountain School of Photography to offer exceptional classes. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of the classes I have taken. One of my friends spent a summer in Missoula with the school and it changed her life and career. Each of their teachers are outstanding. Nothing like being around people who truly love to share their knowledge of photography. More...

I had a wonderful experience with the adult education Basic Photography course. I wanted to learn how to use my camera manually and how to build better photos and this course exceeded my expectations. I feel infinitely more confident with my camera and finally understand exposure fundamentals as well as motivated to get out and keep shooting! Can't wait for another opportunity to attend another class at this school. More...

Q&As

This is my ideal setting when working on a scheduled photoshoot with my clients. After getting to know them over a nice warm cup of coffee or tea, I like to capture their personalities and choose the best location for their photo shoot.
Walking through mother nature and smelling fresh air – the weather couldn’t be better! A family close by, laughing and talking about their current and past events until their bellies hurt…

I believe its important to know about your client, their hobbies, family style, what they love about their life. ect...

Sharing memories that last a lifetime for my clients.

Having my own business has been amazing! I get to meet so many people and their life at that moment.

Whether you’re looking for beautiful spring flowers, huge snow flakes, or gorgeous fall leaves; the smiles of my clients and the twinkle in their eyes come naturally because I take the the time to fully understand them. This is what I look for when photographing a fun-loving personality.

After a session your images can be viewed online and and ordering. One amazing feature your prints are mailed to your physical address!

Also keeping equipment clean and using hand sanitizer all the time.
