This is our go to groomer. They do a great job with our dogs. It's also great that you don't need an appointment if you drop your dog off before 12:00, just drive up to their window and check your Pup in for their beauty treatment! Lisa and the crew at House of Dog are real pros; grooming is the care of the dogs coat, not just a 'bath and a haircut' - I've learned much about dog care from them over the years and more importantly, my dogs like to go :)

Well worth the drive from Novato to San Anselmo this little grooming salon is A much needed respite from those grooming salons in Marin County much so commonly chain the dogs up in a cage, their system as a more socially oriented one. Current review after four solid years of happy grooming experience.  I do not know why Yelp has chosen to elevate so many negative reviews when the overall rating for this great place is 4+ stars.  Prior to finding this gem, I tried several other places in Marin with results ranging from disappointment to barely adequate. House of Dog continues to be my ideal groomer.  Local, caring, reliable, and the best cut around, adjusted not only for the season, but specific to individual pet.  ...and tooth brushing! After reading some of the negative reviews, sounds like their dogs would be better off with a mobile grooming service that comes to them.  It is too bad Yelp doesn't offer a way to question or thumb down reviews. It is suspicious when someone complains about a crate when H.O.D. doesn't ever use them.  It continues to be welcoming and an indicator of environment is staff have a low turnover rate for this kind of business. It is also a measure of their continuing success that they are expanding.  I have never heard Lisa be rude.  She is always direct and efficient, not wasting my time with blather and allowing her to get back to her focus on her furry clients.  I know her priority is my dog and not me, which is exactly as I wish. This place is the best.  My dog is super anxious but she does not freak when we take her here. The space is really open and the dogs are right in front so you can see everything.  The staff is awesome - they are so caring and good with the dogs.  We are always happy with our dog's grooming here!  Only thing is it's super $$.  But worth it if you only take your dog a few times a year. I have been very pleased with House of Dog. Lisa knows how to groom Wheaten Terriers and my dog has never had a better cut than the one she got here.  Prior to finding House of Dog I had been to groomers in both Larkspur and Mill Valley where my dog came back with fleas, looking like a Pomeranian, and still matted. One of these groomers even argued with me about how matted my dog was even though I had combed through every matted spot the day before bringing her in and I had told the groomer this upfront. The grooming at House of Dog was the best my dog has ever gotten. She was soft, clean, COMPLETELY dematted, and actually looked like a Wheaten after the grooming. The fact is, we take our dog to the beach every week, we wash and brush her frequently, but she is a dog who loves to play outside, get dirty and run around and she gets matted. I had an honest conversation with Lisa about my dog before bringing her in and as a result, expectations were set clearly. I was not surprised to get charged a little extra for some dematting on my last visit. The total cost of the visit was no more than any other place I have been to for my dog.  If you are communicative with the dog groomer and both of you have reasonable expectations about what is entailed it will be a good experience for everyone. I don't like that my dog stays there all day, but House of Dog has as good a setup as possible, and all groomers work this way. At least my dog is not kept in a crate for hours and unlike other dog groomers, House of Dog takes the dogs outside to relieve themselves. I highly recommend House of Dog for dog grooming. More...

I live in Peacock Gap and it's well worth the extra drive. My lab, a collie mix, loves coming here. Lisa and her staff provide exceptional customer service. I've taken my dog to numerous places over the years and House of Dog is by far the best. They do a thorough job and pay attention to detail. My dog looks 10 pounds lighter because they go the extra mile of de-shedding her. I feel I get a lot of bang for my buck. More...

This was our first time visiting House of Dog after a friend's recommendation.  We have a 5 year old Bernese Mtn Dog with a ton of hair/ very full coat.  They did an AMAZING job on our girl!!!  She has never looked so great, and they really know how to clean up the double coat of a bernese.  And double points for bringing her back to her house for me when I was stuck in Friday 10 N traffic.  The location is great too- easy parking and not right on a bust street which made it better for me mauvering a dog out of the car with a young child too.We will only be going here with our Berner from now on!!Thanks guys! This place is great. The owner knows exactly how to handle our Jack Russell/Maltese mix and he leaves looking perfect every time. They even offered to let him come hang out so that he can get used to other dogs. My wife and I have 2 dogs, both of which had a lot of matted fur, knots and other things that ...just I'm sure were painful for the dogs.  We try our best to keep up with brushing them, but alas,...nothing we could do.  I was referred to the House of Dog and am extremely happy with the level of service, the level of expertise in the shop and the best reason to give 5 stars:  We picked up our dogs and they looked GREAT and were HAPPY.  We will be back with Noah and Bella soon! Wonderful wonderful groomer! Not only was the grooming good, but my sweet baby dog was treated so well and it was kinda like a doggy day-camp. We were so happy to pick up our sweet dog and see that he was socializing with other sweet dogs and that the staff knew how to appropriately manage the dog-relationships in their salon. BUT, be prepared....if you drop your dog off on a Saturday morning at 9 AM, your dog won't be ready until 3 PM. So, plan your day appropriately. More...

I've been looking for a good groomer in San Anselmo for my mini pomeranian for a long time, and I found it!  I heard that House of Dog owner actually is the original founder of the Mill Valley Doggie Style.  No wonder.  I loved Doggie Style before I moved out of Mill Valley.  House of Dob is the place for dogs.  They are detailed, do a great job on everything in a way that still keeps my dog the way he is.  All in all, he loves the place.  Thumbs up. I tried House of Dog for the first time today. I have a little 10lb. terrier mix that I adopted from Milo. She doesn't need hair cuts, so I can't speak to that. I can say however, that my little pooch came back to me clean and beautiful as ever. I LOVE that this salon is fully transparent--It's one big room. You can see the ENTIRE facility from the front desk. It  made me feel like I could trust the staff, since they are right out there for everyone to see. The owner seems very confident and knowledgeable with dogs, and she and her staff were all nice people.  And I like that you don't need an appointment. Just drop off your dog during the drop-off window, and they'll call you when ready for pick-up. I'll use House of Dog again! More...

I loved this salon. I've tried a few other dog groomers in the area, and have been disappointed. And what a relief to have found House of Dog. Lisa and her team are friendly, down to earth and super skilled. The blow dryers they use for the dogs after their bath is super fun, powerful and effective at getting rid of excess fur. Fantastic in every way! I have tried several in Marin over the past 12 years and, hands down, Lisa is the best! She just moved into a wonderful dog friendly salon in downtown San Anselmo about a month ago. I waited as she made the move from downtown San Rafael and what a wonderful place! It is really the best of indoors and outdoors, with a large open air counter for drop off. My 12 year old Pom is a bit fussy, but is completely at home in this wonderful environment. A completely new approach to housing the dogs while they wait. No cages! Each has it's own little stall and I have never heard a yelp (!) while there. Just wonderful people, expert grooming, and I could not ask for more. If you have been "around the block" with your dog looking for the perfect place, look no further! All the employees are super nice, the end results are excellent and my little Lola is very happy with the experience. She used to shake when we got near a few of the other places we tried, so this is certainly my best indicator. If I could give them 6 stars, I certainly would! I absolutely guarantee that you will be thrilled! I cannot imagine anyone not loving "House of Dog"! More...
