I can’t begin to say enough great things about Double H. The owners are incredible people and the staff at Double H are extremely good at what they do. We have been using Double H for all our dog needs for a long time and I couldn’t imagine using anyone else! Our two oldest dogs have received various types of training through Double H with Rich and we got our 1yr old Dutch Shepherd from them as well. Rich has done phenomenal work with all of our dogs. He is a high quality trainer with a lot of experience & extremely knowledgeable about dog training. Double H provides quality training and builds quality relationships with their clients. The training doesn’t stop when you leave the training facility, if we ever have questions or concerns, we have been able to contact Double H and get feedback immediately. The staff, trainers, owner, experience, and payoff has been better than we could have ever imagined. We adopted a severely abused dog (Theo) who was acting out at home. We moved to Louisville in August of 2019. Our dog Chief had been with us since January 2017 when we rescued him off the streets of Houston. We had a couple occurrences of resource guarding with him and our other dog Lila. We addressed those by separating eating time.After we got to Louisville we had an occurrence of Chief being aggressive towards another dog who he perceived as being too close to my wife. At that time we got Rich’s info from a friend of my sister in law. After talking to Rich on the phone, and bringing Chief in for a consult, we knew that training had to happen and right away. For the last 8 weeks Rich and his team (2 footed and 4 footed) have trained us on how to train Chief. The difference between day 1 and now is incredible. While there will always be room for me to be better owner, I am pleased beyond words with the progress Chief has made. Rich understands how to train dogs and owners while making it rewarding for all parties. Like he says “no one wants to come to a party that sucks.”The most lasting impressions Rich has made on me (besides showing me how to train my dogs) is the one thing you have to remember is that the dog always shows up. The second point that sticks is once you know a dog understands what is expected, you need to raise your expectations. That is the only path to succeed.Thank you Rich for all your help. Double H has been fantastic for training my 8 month old Great Dane. Within a week he is already showing great signs of improvement from his stranger aggression and his aggression with my smaller dog. I’ve seen other reviews discussing the consultation process but I haven’t seen these issues. I cannot say thank you enough to Double H! My Mila recently completed a board and train program with Dean. When I dropped her off for her training I was in tears, because we had already tried other training methods with no progression. I was at wits’ end. Mila was so fearful which made her reactive towards strangers and other dogs. After a few weeks at Double H my dog did a 360° transformation. Dean did an amazing job with her. In our follow-up visits, he always stressed the importance of continuing her training at home. After a few weeks of working with her at home it is obvious Mila has much more confidence. She went from being a dog who would tuck her tail and freeze in fear to being able to stay calm in new situations. Double H did wonders for my baby girl! More...

Ginny is my 2 1/2yr old "hand me down" dog from my daughter, given to me when she couldn't take her two untrained dogs any longer. We love Ginny but she so needed to be trained. Out of the blue I picked this place. We are now one week in and I'm blown away with what they -mainly Jennifer- have done. These folks know their business and they speak dog! They are good and compassionate. No cruelty- just firmness works fine. Ginny is in the 2 week all day program. I take her in the morning and pick her up by 6:00. After their working just 5 days with her and 1 hour with us she now sits or lies down on command as well as heels or stays - for up to 2 hours in place! - all this with people moving and talking and up to 20 dogs obeying and disobeying. That's why I chose this program over private lessons. Ginny is VERY social and always interested if another dog or person is around when we're out. If she can obey under those conditions she will truly be well trained! I recommend Double H and the 2 week in-house program. More...

Couldn’t speak more highly of Double H Canine! We had the opportunity to work with Rich. When my wife expressed concerns about having a puppy around our new baby, I immediately reached out to Rich and worked with him for 6 weeks. EDIT: I didn't have a great experience at first. The service is expensive and I expected a lot of results. The owner addressed all of our concerns with my wife and I think we had a good fix put in place. My initial review was emotionally charged, but I don't think it was terribly inaccurate so I'll leave that as a testament to the business willing to work with a client to make things right. I think an upgraded 4 star is warranted because they delivered, but there wasn't great the first time. Below is my initial review that was addressed by the owner in detail. It's good to see that the owner takes pride in the business and was wanting to make everything right. I'm satisfied now. After three weeks my dogs have no change in behavior. They don't respond to any commands they "learned" and the only thing I got out of it was boarding at 2x the cost of a high end kennel. Actually one dog is terrified of commands and will lay down and the other one of them responds to "sit" after about 5 tries. I taught them sit as puppies in an hour with a bag of popcorn. They learned to fear the trainer, but no discipline or traits when they came home. The most concerning is that they starved one of my dogs and didn't have the common sense to notice he was being underfed. Yes, we did provide measured food in advance, but we also didn't provide any treats or supplemental diet. Regardless, how do you not notice a perfectly healthy, normal weight male French Bulldog at 25-26 lbs being under 22lbs after 3 weeks? He lost over 10% of his body weight and was VERY noticeably underweight. How do you not have the capacity to notice this and call the owner to talk about food intake? Another 2 weeks and he would have probably been hospitalized. I could have achieved the same results with a bag of popcorn and training collar (which one dog doesn't respond to) on my own and saved $2,500The only upside is that they stayed an extra week at no cost because results weren't achieved. The response to that would still be they should have recognized their own limitations and said they didn't have the skill to effectively train certain breeds after a certain age. More...

I apologize in advance for the long review but this is a true testimony as to the kind of services that Double H Canine Training can provide. I fostered a very sick senior chow a year ago & while he was going through various treatments, he was easy to handle & I made the decision to adopt him thinking we were on hospice care. Thanks to our wonderful vets, he stabilized 8 months later with the aid of medication & his true personality started to shine through. As a 7 year old chow from a rural shelter with no prior discipline, he had a tendency to assume ‘alpha’ role at home. After a few prior ‘nips’, an unfortunate bite accident occurred that required medical attention. The day of the accident, I contacted Double H Canine through Facebook based on referrals from friends who were familiar with their ability to deal with ‘aggressive breeds’. I received a response immediately (after hours) telling me to schedule a consult right away. With my arm bandaged from the bite wound, we met with Rich in 24 hours and he evaluated the both of ‘us’ during the consult. He inquired about the dog’s history and at the end the consult he asked what my anxiety derived from because my dog was feeding off my emotions. NAILED IT. I have a history of fostering dogs, rescuing dogs from the streets, and doing shelter transports so while I thought I was capable of handling an ‘alpha dog’, clearly I couldn’t in this case. Double H Canine doesn’t just focus on the dog but they help the trainer as well with a great foundation so both the dog & owner succeed in a comfortable home life. Not only can they predict future behavioral problems but they will give you the tools to conquer each individual issue. Each session was catered to my dog’s needs; when he was feeling overwhelmed, they introduced positive reinforcements to keep him on track and when we began working with the correction collars, they kept the lessons shorter to not over stimulant him. They also teach the owner how to properly use correction collars so the dog is safe & comfortable. We are at the end of our one-on-one sessions with Double H Canine & my chow had gone from ‘75lbsofdontlisten’ to ‘75lbsofobedientboy’. I can comfortably take him out in public and have no behavioral issues; in fact, we receive so many compliments from strangers for how well behaved he is that it’s hard to believe what a misfit he was prior to being educated at Double H Canine. If you consider yourself a dog lover and need help in any aspect, these trainers will put you on the right path for success. You will not meet a more devoted, nicer group of trainers dedicated to helping you & your dog co-exist happily. More...

The people at double H are amazing to say the least. They are hard working and really know what they are doing. They took their time assessing my dog and spoke with me about what my goals were for her. They answered all of my questions and gave me frequent updates about my dogs progress and achievements including pictures and videos! After our training with Kevin my pup Nola is a changed dog. Not only does she know all the commands they taught her she also now has "manners" which is impressive for a 45 lb 5 month old german shepard! Love, love, love this place! Rich is an excellent trainer, along with his amazing team members. Our dog Dexter is always happy to stay with them and learn new things. If you have a fur baby who needs some work on basic commands (or more), this is the place to go. They included our daughter in the training as well, which thrilled her. I have always been impressed with Rich and his Staff; they are dedicated, knowledgeable and give back to the community by supporting non-profit org training service dogs. Sadly, our dog Remy(white shepherd mix pictured with Rich and my wife) died last year from a sudden heart attack. Rich was so understanding and helpful in helping us find a Service Dog candidate that would meet my needs Better; we rescued a Newfoundland mix. I'm posting pictures from video as she's being trained to assist going up & down stairs.It's my opinion that even if you just try basic obedience, a trained owner and dog adds to the wonderful experience of canine ownership! Took our German Shepherd pup here for training. I believe she did 3 weeks training in total, and has made quite a bit of progress. Happy we can take her for walks at the park & take her to the pet store with us now, without her barking at anyone, or pulling constantly...we are still going over what she has learned with her regularly, so it really sticks. Hank my dog and I worked with Rich for 6 one hour sessions. Rich taught me how to effectively work with Hank and the results are great. Hank has always been a very friendly dog, but walking on a leash was a nightmare. Not anymore, I can take him anywhere and he walks by my side. He can have the distraction of other dogs or people and he knows to sit until I release him. I have taken control and now have the skills to continue to work with Hank and enjoy him. Rich is fantastic! We just completed our 6 week training program with our 3 year old dog, Beau, and we are amazed. Before we started Beau would pull us constantly on the leash when we went for walks. After the first lesson, he was walking by our side. Over the next several weeks Rich taught us how to teach Beau. He can now sit, lay down, stay, come, and walk without a leash. I can't speak have highly enough about Rich and his crew (including his canine helpers). A combination of stay-and-play and one-on-one training (with ample work at home too) have taken our dog from an unruly adolescent puppy with a mind of his own to a well-behaved obedient dog (at least most of the time! ) He always leaves his days at stay-and-play tired and ready to relax at home in the evening. I take my dogs to day care here and they love it. I have two dogs who started to really need more socialization and this place has been amazing. They love all the staff, so much so that they have tried to jump in their cars to go home with them, they always try to go in when we walk by and they run to all the staff as soon as they are them. I brought a 6 mo. old pit bull pup to Richard that had been left tied to a balcony most of his life. He was in need of more help than I was equipped to give and I have been rescuing dogs since I was a young girl, mainly hard cases. But with Rich's help I now have a dog that is a joy to be around. Richard and the gang at Double H are FANTASTIC!!! I had know idea on even how to begin training my Dog but these guys made me feel confident that the impossible was now POSSIBLE ! !!! A high school friend of mine told me about Double H so I gave it a try and glad I did! Every dog deserves Double H! Not only did the training help me take my house back from my Great Dane puppy, but it gave him the structure he desired to thrive in a domestic setting!
