Dog Training

I hired Kara to help with leash pulling and basic obedience. Kara provided great suggestions for getting my dogs attention on me, shared some great options for harnesses to try to help reduce pulling during training, and made the training session fun for me and my dog. My dog is actually paying better attention to me and walks have become less stressful and more enjoyable. I highly recommend Dog Training with Kara and would definitely hire her again if I need help with training my dog. More...

Q&As

I love helping people learn how to train their puppies and dogs. I don’t believe there are any “bad” dogs and oftentimes find challenging behaviors are due to lack of communication and consistency between the human and canine. Training has to be fun for both ends of the leash. I focus on giving positive reinforcement to my human clients and their dogs so they know what they’re doing well and offer a variety of solutions for any challenges they may be facing.

Owning my own business provides me with the freedom and flexibility to work with people who need help training their dogs during times that fit their schedules.

I am only one of three trainers in Kenosha and Racine counties who holds a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) credential, which means I have spent at least 150 hours working with people and teaching them how to communicate and train their dogs in both a classroom setting and private in-home training. This credential also requires that I obtain continuing education units to re-certify every 3 years and uphold the ethics and standards required by the CCPDT. I never use force or punishment to “train” any animal. I believe in using treats, toys, games and anything else the dog loves to reward the right behaviors, which is not only fun but helps to build trust and a strong bond between the family and their puppy or dog.

Services

I offer the following training and behavior modification services:
1) Puppy Training: potty training, crate training, nipping, chewing, jumping, etc.
2) Basic Manners: sit, down, come, stay, loose leash walking, etc.
3) Behavior Modification: training programs to help shy, fearful and reactive dogs.
4) Focus & Control: training to help dogs to learn to focus and pay attention to you in the real world.

Following each session, I will provide you with a written assessment of my recommendations and suggested training and behavior modification plan.

Does your dog have difficulty paying attention to you around other dogs, people, and distractions? Is he easily aroused and unable to relax? This is a great class for dogs who would have difficulty concentrating in a regular group dog class. This program will teach you and your dog how to relax, focus, and work together as a team in stimulating and distracting situations. This class is like no other you have taken. We are shaping behavior, not teaching manners. This class is designed to improve focus, impulse control, and build confidence for dogs and their humans. Class size is kept small (4 dogs) so you receive more individual attention.

~ This class is NOT intended for dogs that are aggressive toward other dogs or people ~
