Fanny learned so much from Confetti Dogs in just a few weeks. We had no experience with “food claiming” and the “in your place” command but they proved foundational for Fannys learning.

We were also unsure about using an e-collar but with John’s compassionate and knowledgeable guidance it actually helped Fanny gain confidence and comfort in making calm choices.

Days after our last lesson we moved 800 miles with Fanny. Thanks to Confetti Dogs she is making a smooth transition.

We will continue to consult with John via Zoom on any issues that come up—as part of our training package.

We were also impressed with John’s professionalism, transparency and innovative, customized lessons. We felt as if he built each lesson (including personalized homework sheets) based on Fanny and our needs.

I highly recommend Confetti Dogs. It helped make Fanny a better version of her sweet self.

My husband and I adopted our dog not knowing what we were getting into. We brought our lab mix, Chessie home thinking she would adjust to life at her own pace and everything would work out.
After a week of living with us, Chessie started exhibiting behaviors that were concerning. She was lounging at friends and family members, constantly running after our cat, became very protective of me to the point where my husband couldn’t give me a hug without her barking or growling at him and did not do well with walks. Especially with people and other dogs.
My husband, not having much experience with dogs was becoming apprehensive towards Chessie and I needed to find a trainer fast!
I searched on google “Frederick dog training” and the first results was Confetti Dog Training. After extensively researching his page and reading reviews, I learned he checked all of my boxes! He was local ✔️ Small business ✔️ Customized training ✔️ Free consultation ✔️ Traveled to our home.

During our first Consultation, John educated us on dog training, what was to be expected of us and what we could expect from him. He met with Chessie and took the time to learn what we were struggling with, what our goals were and what we wanted out of her training. I was impressed! I could really tell that John was passionate about his profession.
Jump start to training, we struggled at first but as every week went by Chessie transformed into a different dog! She barked less, her anxiety reduced, she started learning that she couldn’t lounge at people and she actually enjoy walks! On top of that, we learned so much about Chessie and how she communicates with us, which in turn has helped us train her more efficiently!
This review is already long but it is only to show our love and appreciation for John and how we cannot thank him enough! He is realistic, timely, responsive, educated, patient and makes training fun!
If you are looking for a quick fix, John is not for you. But if you are willing to put in the effort, make the changes recommended by John and commit. I cannot rave about him enough!
He’s worth it, I promise!

After completing the training, it feels like we have a new dog. Lexie, she is a energetic English bulldog. It’s amazing how now Lexie learned how to self regulate to control her jumps and pushing on people. John was so flexible with us. John is really profesional and so easy to work with. Thank you John for the amazing help with our Lexie More...

I was impressed with John and his training methods. His demeanor with the dogs was always safe, sane, and gentle. His homework was easily outlined. He provided tools that helped both our dogs work better together and separately. We were even able to take a break in the middle of the training period when life got a bit crazy. John is professional, polite, and respectful of his client's time. He kept us informed of schedule changes and checked in with us regularly on our progress. His view is that the intense work might end, but he and his company are always there for tune-ups, group classes, or to get information. When the training ends, Confetti Dogs doesn't end, they are with you in the long haul. As a result of his training, my dogs are much bettered mannered on leash and in the house, and if they aren't I know what to do to get them in a better space. I highly recommend Confetti Dogs and will be contacting them again for further training. More...

John has been the perfect trainer to assist me in socializing and developing my Belgian Malinois puppy Charla. We started when she was between 7-8 months and the results have been amazing! !

Charla can calmly wait for her food, place, sit and come on command and walk on a leash without pulling. Her focus has increased and demeanor calmed considerably.....from crate training to unnecessary barking, aggression and jumping.

Thanks John.....You and Charla are my new best friends!

John is kind, caring and amazing at what he does.....I have learned as much as Charla! Ed Murray

I cannot say enough great things about our experience using Confetti Dogs. We came to John with a list of issues we wanted to work on with our dog (reactivity, proper walking, leash pulling, barking) and he laid out a great plan for us. He started with a foundation that we built upon each week, and by the end our dog was doing so much better! John is very accommodating, was great at communicating, and went out of his way to give us a positive experience. Our individual sessions are now complete and we look forward to the group sessions to continue reinforcing the things our dog learned. Highly recommend! More...

We contacted Confetti Dogs for multiple issues. Bringing a new puppy home to a house with a 2 yr old female golden doodle Ani was more challenging than we had anticipated. The beautiful puppy we received who we named Charlie was to be a mini Bermadoodle soon grew to a 60lb. handful. Dogs scrapping, jumping, barking, and crate training were slow in coming. We also needed to take 4 dogs to the beach with us.

1. Concerns before we started
Jumping, 2 dogs scrapping, crate training, Barking ( Charlie very timid.
2. How are dogs now?
Do you feel you have a plan of action?
Ani and Charlie are much better, are a work in progress. John gives you confidence and the techniques for success.
3. Would you recommend Confetti Dogs? Why or Why not
What were somethings your liked about the training process
John brings wholeness and calm to have a lifetime of happiness with your dogs. John always engaged in understanding our family. Can't recommend him enough, you won't be disappointed.
P.S. The beach trip with 4 dogs was very successful. Bumps in the road we had the tools John gave us to handle the situation.

John is amazing and the program is top notch! I was looking for a trainer to help me with a pitbull we were adopting because I wanted to make sure he would be safe around my family, specifically my toddler. John developed a custom program for my pup and all I have to say is this is not the same dog I started with. John has helped what could have been a stressful and dangerous pet become a loving and well mannered part of our family. If you are looking for a trainer, look no further! John will go the extra mile to make sure you are educated and satisfied, and that your dog gets the training it needs. I can't say enough good things about Confetti Dogs. John is the best around and it was truly a pleasure working with him. More...

I would highly recommend John for your dog training needs. I have used dog training in one form or another for different dogs that I have had over the last 25 years. They have all worked to some degree teaching basic commands and nice tricks. The thing about John’s training is that he assesses your dog/dogs and talks to you about your goals/issues that you are trying to solve. Our consultation meeting was over an hour and we got some good tips just from the consultation. After going through our sessions with John our dogs are happier and we are better dog owners. We recognize their energy levels and have the tools to deal with old and new situations that we want to change. John is great at what he does! More...

My family (which includes three small children) had a wonderful experience with Confetti Dogs - specifically John as our trainer! We struggled with a large puppy - pulling the lease, nipping the children, and potty routine. John was able to get us on track with the potty training and went above and beyond with learning to walk with a loose leash and stopping/preventing the nipping. We are really proud of how well River is doing and would highly recommend Confetti Dogs. In addition to the training, John is a pleasure to be around - easy going, kind, smart, and thoughtful. We had previously left a review for Confetti Dogs but wanted to add that John also does follow up "Practice Walks". My wife took advantage of this and had John meet her to walk our bichon mix, Toni (12 pounds of barking craziness before John and Confetti Dogs training), in downtown Frederick. Marianne had never thought to walk Toni downtown-too many people, dogs etc. However since John had worked with training Toni and she was now able to walk her around our neighborhood and in Baker Park, Marianne was willing to give it a try with John. Well today turned out to be Pride Day in Frederick so the downtown was packed with people and dogs. With John walking with her, Toni successfully walked through downtown and onto Carroll Creek (which also had music playing). Toni managed all of this chaos beautifully and was rewarded with tiny pieces of cheddar cheese-a small price to pay for a delightful walk. Thank you John and Confetti Dogs for making this walk something we would never have tried. Marianne came home so happy with how Toni had behaved. Thank you John and Confetti Dogs. More...

I worked with Confetti Dogs to help my >one year old puppy with obedience training. We had a great experience John. He was hands-on, thorough, and promptly available if I had any questions or concerns outside of training time. I definitely recommend using Confetti Dogs! More...

Our "Panda" joined our family several years ago and has been a great addition to our home. She is sweet and good natured but high-energy and was a bit (ok, a great deal) undisciplined. We came to John from Confetti Dogs with our main goal: "We want to be able to walk Panda without her pulling us and barking at everything that moved". Walks were miserable and though we knew it was good for her (and us), we just couldn't do it because 30 seconds into the walk she would be pulling our kids down the sidewalk, barking at every person, squirrel, and dog that passed.

John spent time assessing our goals and challenges, came up with a plan, and immediately called out some suggestions that he thought would help make a difference in a short amount of time...and it did! One of those interventions was the prong collar. I was a little hesitant at first because I obviously didn't want to hurt our Panda. John worked with us and addressed all of our fears and concerns and we felt confident that the collar would help our Panda feel secure and would allow us to go out for walks with her, without hurting her at all. A note: We live out-of-town and so had most of our interaction remotely via Zoom. We were unsure if the guidance given remotely would be effective but our experience that followed showed us it was incredibly effective!

Literally, the very first time we went for a walk with her putting all of the tools and training John recommended in place, Panda was a different dog! The walk was calm and enjoyable-an experience we thought would be impossible!

We can't thank John and Confetti Dogs enough. His expertise, knowledge, and compassion for these furry creatures has made Panda happier and her family even more happy! We highly recommend Confetti Dogs if you want to give your dog and family the best possible relationship together! Thank you Confetti Dogs!

Can an older dog learn new tricks? -yes - if the trainer is John from Confetti Dogs. We have a 7 year old female bichon mix who is a wonderful dog if you are not walking her outside. Since the day we got her 3 years ago (she is a rescue) when I walked her in our neighborhood she barked at every car, person, dog and birds. I could not talk to any of my neighbors because of her non-stop barking. She also constantly pulled me and lunged at cars. This 12 pound terror had been through training with someone who suggested that once she was spayed she would calm down (she didn't), a citronella collar, an e-collar (it didn't stop her barking at any intensity), a barking specialist (she only didn't bark for him), a behavior vet who wanted her sedated before every walk.....we failed with everything. Then one day I saw the Confetti Dog truck that described my dog. We set up a phone call, then an in home evaluation and then started working with John. He is so calm and pleasant. Using his method of food claiming, a deterrent to unwanted behavior (a spray bottle with water), treats for good behavior, walking when not hyper, a micro prong collar etc. after 5 weeks of twice weekly classes, Toni is not pulling, not barking at cars, dogs, people, bikes. The best part is all the training was done in my house and neighborhood where all my walking problems occur. I have been able to stop and talk to people for the first time in 3 years with my dog. John trains the person as much as your dog. We even had classes in Baker Park, a place I was afraid to go with Toni since she had barked at every person and dog there in the past; it was a pleasant experience after all the training John had done with Toni. I now look forward to my walks-what a difference 6 weeks has made in my life and Toni's. John and Confetti Dogs have had such a positive effect on us. THANK YOU!!! More...

In September of 2021, my dog Carol and I were fortunate to meet John of Confetti Dogs and our lives are much better for it.
Since the first meeting in western Maryland my anxiety around not being the best dog parent that I could be melted away. Johns's approach is compassionate and Carol warmed up to him right away. I say this first because in the past Carol has been really afraid of men due to past trauma. She wasn't jumping all over him so to speak but he knew what to do and gave me proper advice on how to handle our first meeting. Not only is john good with our furry children he is gentle and firm with us humans. That is really what needs to happen to start with us to allow space to grow with confidence so our dogs can feel that within themselves. Carol and I always had trouble walking in parks around people and other dogs and now with the e collar and prong ( both things I never wanted to do but now see how wonderfully safe they are), we can easily be in any situation that unfolds. Also, I have complete confidence in myself and in Carol and this has created an even stronger bond between us.

John also has dedicated time to talk with me and spend alone time with Carol so we tighten all the curriculum for her to be safe and confident at our home on a farm and within other spaces ( we travel around a lot and this has been a godsend).

Confetti Dogs has created an opportunity here in Maryland for people to have a safe and comfortable training experience.
Deep gratitude for the guidance, support, and compassion that Confetti Dogs has shown us.

We have been working with John at Confetti Dogs for several weeks now and are extremely happy we chose John. He has taken the time to make sure we, as the owners, understand what we need to do and that dog is learning what is expected. With his instruction our dog has become more responsive to off leash commands, better mannered and still bounding with happiness. John at Confetti Dogs has also taught me the steps needed to teach our dog new commands for things we might want to add in the future.
John has been responsive with answering questions between sessions and often provides short videos for clarification to questions. He also encourages us to send him short training videos to make sure we are on track and not creating bad habits. This level of communication and knowledge is really helpful, and shows John truly enjoys his craft.
Before meeting with Confetti Dogs, I looked into several different training options and researched e-collar training. I found Confetti to be the most thorough in conditioning a dog to an e-collar and the trainging package included instruction and all the tools needed. I was surprised how seamlessly the tools made the training. Yes, we have put in hours of work and repetitions but without John's knowledge and guidance we would not have been half as successful. If you are considering a dog trainer, John at Confetti Dogs is fantastic

I strongly recommend John Tomassoni and his Confetti dog training - either in person or virtual! Here are just some of my reasons. 1. I love John’s deep caring in his words, tone and actions - for the dog as well as the owner. He has a direct yet calming way with his instructions. 2. He is very understanding and patient in giving guidance while always offering praise and encouragement. 3. For our virtual lessons, he goes way above and beyond in sending us pre and post viewing materials (e.g., videos and slides) 4. He clearly practices what he teaches as evident in the fantastic results he’s achieved with his own three dogs. 5. He is very perceptive of both the dog’s and owner’s needs. 6. I’ve known John for years and he is an all around amazing, trustworthy, kind, hard working, compassionate, caring human being that all manifests into a fantastic dog and dog owner trainer. Give John and Confetti Dogs a try! I’m confident you won’t be disappointed. Guy from Vermont More...
