Called in for tea tonight, three different meals (blue cod and chips, beef burger and slow cooked wagu) we all left full and will be back again. Nice staff too.

I would highly highly highly recommend the Mornington kitchen and bar! Went there over the weekend and had their sharing plates over a glass of wine. Very hard to pick just a few sharing plates as they all look delicious. The polenta chips and salt and pepper squid are real winners. Great place in dunedin to go to catch up with friends and family with it’s cosy modern design. I enjoyed the place so much we went back for breakfast for pancakes. Stopped in for brunch this morning and the new fitout looks fantastic, such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The food and service were both outstanding. Popped in today for lunch - it was busy but about half the tables were empty. The person who greeted us asked if we had a booking - we didn't, so she went to check which tables were available. She came back a few minutes later and informed us that all the empty tables were reserved with guests arriving soon. She apologised in a perfunctory fashion and walked away. I understand about tables being reserved and would not at all expect to be given a reserved table. What I don't understand however is why we weren't offered one of the following: * a seat in the bar * to wait until a table became available from diners who were almost finished * the option for cabinet food and coffees to take away * a cheerful and friendly person with a bit of warmth in their manner who may make us want to return one day Seems they didn't really want our money after all? Bit of a weird attitude in the current climate, especially when the size of their dining room appears to be reduced with the makeover. The abruptness of the staff member made us feel really unwelcome and we aren't feeling overly enthused about trying again. More...

We were extremely looking forward to our first visit since the revamp. We always enjoyed going for meals beforehand. Beautiful atmosphere and lovely staff but unfortunately our big breakfast was cold and tasted as if it had been sitting too long, my coffee arrived after I'd finished breakfast and was not very nice, very hot and tasted burnt. Very Impressed, tasty sounding menu that stacks up when the dishes arrive in front of you. Young, friendly & helpful staff and bloody quick service. Regardless of it being a Monday it was busy and the food was out smartly. Great relaxed decor. The Blue Cod was a huge hit as was the pizza! $29 for the ribs, there was only 4 small ribs and 10 chips, my partner got the schnitzel without any salads and asked for chips instead and still got charged the $26 plus had to pay an extra $6 for chips.....very disappointed

Highly recommend Mornington Kitchen & Bar. Very trendy and welcoming atmosphere. So nice to be welcomed into a cafe/restaurant by friendly staff and seeing the owners/management greeting guests as they come in, nothing seemed a problem! !
