Wedding Makeup Artists Near You

Every bride wants to look her best on their wedding day, and a huge part of this is selecting a makeup artist to help perfect your makeup. Bridal makeup should complement your dress and hair. However, it should also photograph beautifully and require minimal touch-ups throughout the day. It’s important to select the right wedding makeup, as you will look back on the photographs for years to come. You need to feel confident and beautiful with the finished result.

Whether you have a fixed idea of the look you’d like to achieve on your wedding day, or if you need a consultation to decide, we’ll help you find the best local wedding makeup artists on Bark.

Should I hire a Makeup Artist for my wedding?

Even if you are extremely confident at applying makeup, it can be incredibly nerve wracking to apply it yourself on your wedding day. In contrast, a good makeup artist will put the bride at ease and take care of the entire process for them. Whatsmore, you’ll have a consultation before your big day so you can be confident you’ll look exactly as you imagined. A bridal makeup artist will also be able to use their expertise to make sure the makeup photographs well and lasts all day.

If you don’t usually wear makeup and are unsure whether a makeup artist is right for you or not, don’t panic! At your consultation, you can discuss any concerns you have. If you want an understated look, the makeup artist will help you achieve this. An experienced makeup artist will have worked on hundreds of brides before, so they can cater to all desired looks.

When to book Wedding Makeup

Ideally, you should book your wedding makeup artist as soon as possible. The most in-demand makeup artists are booked up months if not years in advance. Though, if you plan to get married outside of the traditional wedding season, they may have better availability.

What to look for in a Wedding Makeup Artist

Your wedding day is going to be one of the most special and memorable days of your life. As one of the first people who will interact with you before the ceremony, your wedding makeup artist will set the tone for the rest of the day. They should be someone who works well under pressure, while equally putting you at ease. When you look in the mirror at the final look, their work should make you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself.

Different types of Wedding Makeup

How do you imagine looking as you walk down the aisle? Your wedding makeup should capture your personality and enhance your natural features. Wedding makeup can be soft and demure or feature bold looks, such as a bright lip or smokey eye.

Understated wedding makeup is ideal for brides who don’t feel comfortable wearing heavier makeup looks, but still want to enhance their natural features. It may include a light coverage foundation, a soft blush application and a subtle lip colour.

Glamorous makeup is about adding prominence to your look. For example, contouring to create shape and definition to the face. Or, smokey eyeshadow and false lashes to enhance the look of your eyes. Typically, glamorous bridal looks use a heavier makeup application, but it can also be achieved using understated techniques too.

To create a blushing bride in the true sense of the word, a romantic bridal makeup application is the way to go. Romantic bridal makeup emphasises the natural flush of the face, and can also incorporate shimmery eye looks too. The lip can either be kept natural or have a pop of colour. Think spring weddings, and that perfectly sums up a romantic bridal makeup look.

No two weddings are the same, so it could be the case that a custom makeup look would work best for your big day. For example, weddings that have a retro theme. Or any other theme for that matter! The best course of action here would be to research the type of styles the makeup artist can achieve. Make sure you let them know exactly what you have in mind during your consultation.

What credentials should a Bridal Makeup Artist have?

There are various makeup courses and diplomas a makeup artist can have. Some may have trained professionally or worked on a makeup counter. Bridal makeup is slightly different from regular makeup, in that it’s personal to that bride and needs to look good in a variety of lighting situations. So, above all else, look for a makeup artist that has plenty of experience specifically in applying bridal makeup.

Can I get Bridal Makeup online?

While wedding makeup needs to be applied in person, it is possible to research bridal makeup artists online. These days, most makeup artists have portfolios and social media displaying their work. This can be a great way to find local makeup artists. Always be sure to contact them and meet with them in person before your wedding day, so that you know you’re both on the same page.

What do you love most about your job?

Everyday is different from the next! One day I could be working at a vintage wedding venue with a beautiful bride and the next I could be at Notting Hill, living it up with a carnival band creating totally different looks. My job is fun and exciting and I get to meet new people everyday, I love every minute of it!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always had a passion for makeup which inspired me to undertake the course at DFMA Makeup Academy. From there, working and training with the major makeup brands gave me the experience and knowledge needed for the industry, however my skills were limited thus capping my creativity. Which in turn inspired me to release my creative potential to infinite opportunities through starting my own business!

Some brides choose to apply their own makeup for their wedding. However, many prefer to have their makeup professionally applied to ensure that it looks perfect for their big day. Having your makeup professionally applied for your wedding also gives you that bit of pampering on your wedding day, allowing you to relax whilst an expert makes you look great.

Many brides wonder whether their hair or makeup should be done first on their wedding day. Ideally, you’ll have your hair styled first and your makeup applied afterwards. This is because the heat from the styling tools could cause your makeup to run. However, don’t worry if your schedule means that your makeup needs to be applied first. Hiring a professional wedding makeup artist and hairdresser will ensure that your hair and makeup both look perfect for your wedding, no matter which order they need to take place.

Ideally, you should have your makeup applied 1-2 hours before you need to set off for your wedding ceremony. You’ll ideally have your hair styled first, and then your makeup applied, leaving enough time to get changed into your dress before the ceremony. Most brides choose for their bridesmaids to have their hair and makeup done first, with the bride being last. This ensures that your hair and makeup last for as long as possible.
