What makes a great website?

I think a great website will inform people about something and will also inspire them to take action. Good web sites should be user friendly and should make it easy for people to find the things that they need. People have a short attention span when surfing the web, so it needs to be easy to navigate and the most important details should be easily accessible. It is also important that people can find a web site easily, either through a Google search, or via social media.

Visitors should enjoy using the site, and they should also be encouraged to take the next step. The next step depends on the objectives of the client or business. It might be to make a purchase, to sign up for a newsletter, to get in contact, or to follow a link to anoher page or social media profile.

My top 5 priorities for a good web site are…

EASY TO USE: Simple navigation
FUNCTIONAL: Informative & reliable
BEAUTIFUL: Visually attractive
ENGAGING: Encourages action
EASY TO FIND: With powerful SEO

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

I would never start a project without having a conversation first. Emails and messages are not the best way to communicate at the start of a project. Both the client and the designer need to be able to ask questions. So the first step would be to meet face to face, or to arrange a phone or Skype call.

What is it that you want? Are there any examples of designs that you like?

What do you definitely not want? Do you have any examples?

When do you need it finished by?

What is your budget?

How much do you want to be involved in the design process? Do you want me to show you several options and let you choose? Or do you want to trust me to make decisions along the way?

How do you want to communicate, and how often?

I would ask more questions than the ones mentioned above, but this depends on the type of project. If I am designing somethnig for a business, then I would want to understand the brnd and its products, so that I can design something that's consistent with its identity. If I'm designing something for an indivdiual then I would want to know more about their personal taste and personality.

Why should our clients choose you?

I will take the time to understand what it is that you need, and I will deliver this on time and to a high standard. I work flexibly and with open communication. After you get in touch with me I wil give you my personal email address and phone number, which means that I can respond quickly and adapt to feeedback. If a design needs changing slightly, if you have an urgent request, or if there is a web site problem that needs fixing, I can usually react quickly.

I've worked with all kinds of clients, over several years, and I've had an interest in art and design since high-school. My academic background (psychology, sociology, research) is quite unique for a designer. Psychology is a really important part of functional design, and my understanding of facts and figures means that I can also help with things like web analytics.

My experience as a tutor and trainer means that I can also teach you how to use software, such as Wordpress. This gives web site owners the option of maintaining their own site.

I have recently started using Bark. At the moment I am offering reduced rates to all new clients who contact me through Bark. So if you see the prices onmy web site, I will give a dicount...because i want to establish myself on this platform and get some good reviews. So I hope to give you a 5-star service.
