What should I consider before deciding on a Roofer?

Our list of local roofing installers can advise on the best roof repair or replacement for your needs within your budget. Here are some aspects that is important to consider when choosing a contractor.

  • It is important to know how long they have been trading and whether they have experience of carrying out similar work. You need to be clear on whether they are going to provide the materials for the job and whether they hold public liability insurance and how much it covers.
  • Planning permission is not normally needed when the alteration is no more than 150mm from the existing roof pane and the alteration is not higher than the highest part of the roof.
  • If you want to repair or re-cover less than 25 per cent of a pitch or flat roof, you will not normally need to submit a building regulations application.

You can be confident that any of the local Bark roof installation and replacement experts listed will help you repair or replace your roof and give you peace of mind.

When should I look to replace the roof?

A new roof can increase your home's value by improving the selling price, selling time and kerb appeal. A new roof can also improve the structural integrity and safety of your home.

There are a number of factors that may mean you need to replace the roof. Firstly, if it looks worn and tired and it has been in place more than 20 years then it might be time for a replacement. If your neighbours are replacing theirs, the chances are the houses were built at the same time and your roof may need replacing.

Moss growing can also mean damage to your roof which needs to be repaired. Water damage is a tell-tale sign of roof problems as well as holes in the surface.

What should I look for in a Roofing professional?

Before you choose a roofer, you could take a look for membership from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors Limited (NFRC) which is the largest roofing trade association in the UK.

Before choosing a professional, you may also want to ask for examples of past work, which could include images of different types of roofs that they have installed in the past. You could also look at their profile page on Bark, and Bark can show you reviews from past customers too, as well as examples of work that they have completed. This might also help you get some ideas for the roof or repairs you might need for your property.

Thats simple!

No we like to view everything before quotation. Reason being is we are the trained eye and what we see will be totally different to what the client sees, we do this day in and day out we visualise without trying and also know signs of faults.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We tend to be more external than internal except for our conversions that being said we don't like to have access throughout the project due to safety reasons.

All tools are sanitised with sanitary bases around our work areas, masks are often worn anyway due to dust particles created.

It’s always recommended to hire a professional roofer to repair or replace a roof. Repairing a roof involves working at height which can be extremely dangerous if you aren’t professionally trained and without the right safety equipment. Roofs are also delicate, meaning that they can be easily damaged during a DIY repair. This could lead to further costs later down the line.

In the majority of cases, a leaking roof will not be covered by home insurance. Some companies offer this type of insurance as an add-on service which needs to be purchased on top of standard home insurance. The exception to this is if your roof was damaged by a storm, in which case you may find that your home insurance will cover the damage. However, the majority of cases will not be covered by insurance.

A new roof may increase property value slightly. The level of increase depends on the condition of the existing roof. If the existing roof is in poor condition and is detracting from the home’s value, replacing the roof is a great investment. If the existing roof is in good condition and there is no visual issue, replacing the roof is unlikely to affect the value of the property.
