I first begin by getting to know the client, their tastes, the end goal of the project and what a dream room would look like to them. This is crucial for the success of the project, as it enables me to create a truly unique design for the client based on their personality and interests. All my designs also take into account the functional requirements of the room too.
I then create initial mood boards and inspiration boards, sending them to the client early to hear your thoughts. This identifies style preferences early on and also anything that needs a little more work. Involving the client is critical for the project to be successful.
Next, I present the client with 2D and 3D visualisations of the space, along with a floor plan to help understand the design. The 3D render of the design allows my clients to see their room in action and get a better understanding of furniture spacing. This usually takes the breath away from the client as they see their room transformed in the render.
I also provide a write-up to explain the process behind the design. At this stage, the client may be happy with the design and I would present the shopping list with all the items to purchase for the design.
Once the client is happy and proud about their design/new room, we then finalise the project and I can make myself a cup of tea to celebrate.
My experience with clients around the globe has led me to complete many different designs, where I can take elements of design from different cultures around the world and incorporate into my designs. However, my favourite designs are Scandi, Boho, Coastal, Minimalist and Modern.
What gets me out of bed every morning as an Interior Designer is Decorelm's mission to make that proud feeling about your home accessible for everyone. Interior Design has long been deemed as only for wealthy, so by making it more accessible for everyone really sparks joy inside me, as I believe that there is no greater feeling than feeling that sense of peace and pride about your home.
