A Dog’s Best Friend

East Dunbartonshire

I am based in the Westend of Glasgow and offer practical private and group class training sessions (classes on Wednesday evenings in Bearsden), dog psychology and behaviour modification. I am a qualified Canine Body Language Instructor and a qualified member of Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), The Dog Training College (DTC). I am also a Certified Assistance Dog Trainer through Cooperative Paws I adhere to their codes of conduct which includes the use of Force Free, Positive Reinforcement, up to date, modern, and science based training. I do not use or condone the use of aversives in dog training. Please be aware that there are still trainers out there who yank on collars, use sprays and throw things at dogs and force dogs into position or worse, submission. If you come across this please ask them to leave your dog alone, and get in touch with me. I am Disclosure checked, Insured and Pet First Aider. Dogs are my passion!

What do you love most about your job?

Dog’s are my passion, and therefore it’s the best job in the world for me. I love what we do and do what I love. Also being able to make the relationship between dog and owner a better and stronger one gives me a great sense of satisfaction. All dogs deserve to be happy, safe and loved but there is no behaviour from a dog that the owner should have to put up with and that’s why I want to help.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always had an affinity with dogs from a young age. I trained my friends and neighbours puppies and dogs and eventually decided that this is what I wanted to do with my life after my children had gown up. I decided to get genuine qualifications on courses and training programmes which are graded on the Open College Network and use up to date training methods, which of course are Force Free. The business has grown from there.

Why should our clients choose you?

Studied Canine Psychology, Behaviour and Modification (Canine Psychology Centre). Dog Training and Handling (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers - IMDT) I am a qualified trainer with The Dog Training College as a Licensed Canine Body Language Instructor and a Reactivity Specialist.
As already stated above I do not use or condone aversives, the training methods I use gives your dog choices and rewards. This is done the right way and therefore has fast and positive results. I am also able to help if your dog suffers from fear, anxiety, separation distress, or dog to dog or dog to people reactivity. I stay up to date with training and behaviour modification methods by completing the necessary CPD every year to improve my knowledge and skills.
I also trained and qualified in Pet First Aiders (Fitzcharles Training)

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I canm, but to be honest, the best way to deliver training or behaviour modification is in person as it is easier to direct the handler mechanics and watch the dog's body language up close. I am happy to comply with all Covid advice and wear a mask if the client would prefer. I am also happy to do the consultation outside too if the client would feel happier.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I carry masks and hand sanitiser with me at all time. Also as above.
