What do you love most about your job?
Meeting people face to face! I love building long lasting relationships through getting to know them and continually keeping in touch to ensure I am servicing them to the highest standard I possibly can. I love that my years of experience and my years of endless learning to keep up to date with regulations and exam requirements can benefit people whom otherwise may not have known that certain methods/products existed.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After leaving school in 1979, I graduated from Moray House Teacher Training College. I taught Technical Education in Secondary School for six years. Realising there was greater potential in the financial industry, I joined The Royal Bank of Scotland and then St Jame's Place as a Financial Adviser.
Again, realising I was offering a restricted range of products, it became apparent to me that my goal was to become an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) to allow me to provide a complete service for my clients.
Setting up Torphin Associates Ltd (trading as Torphin Financial Planning) as a directly authorised company has allowed me to create an efficient working template in an ever changing environment. This has insured a bright future for the company which continues to grow and develop in my 30th year as an adviser.
