The Big Conversion Company converted my scruffy wetroom to a modern shower room. Matt discussed my options with me, showing samples for me to choose. Matt and Rhyse worked hard to complete the work within the time period, cleaning up at the end of each day, and were as unobtrusive as possible. The work was completed within estimated cost, and I'm delighted with the result. More...

From the first point of contact Matt was Promp on site. He was then knowledgable and thorough in his estimate.
He offered opinions on the work to be carried out, rather than just follow an idea.
Once a price had been agreed the work began on time.
He was organised, tidy and efficient. Things not often said in the same statement.
I would be more than happy to share pictures of the work carried out.

Thanks Matt.

Me and my husband were recommended the big conversion company for our bathroom refurbishment and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. The guys were brilliant and very professional. They gave us suggestions on how to utilise all the space within the bathroom and even gave us different ideas that we hadn't even considered ourselves. They have an eye for detail. Our bathroom has been transformed. They were on hand to answer all our questions through-out the whole process. We were so happy with the outcome that we are in the process currently of using them for our loft conversion too. More...

We used the Big Conversion Company for an extension on our house. They helped with all aspects of the project, including the initial design ideas and planning. A friendly team who were very professional throughout the entire build. If we ever need any more building work done they will be our first place to start. More...

The guys completed a garage conversion for us and we are over the moon!! They were helpful, reliable and catered to everything - even if I did make their lives harder at times! Highly recommended!!

Q&As

1. Size
The minimum size required for a single-car garage conversion is around 12 feet by 20 feet, while a two-car garage should be at least 20 feet by 20 feet.

2. Ceiling height
The ceiling should be at least 8 feet in height to ensure there is enough headroom.

3. Structural integrity
The garage should be structurally sound and able to support the weight of additional construction.

4. Access
There should be easy access to the converted space, either through the existing garage door or a new entryway.

If your garage meets these criteria, it may be suitable for conversion. It's always a good idea to consult with a professional contractor or architect to evaluate the space and provide guidance on the feasibility of a conversion. We also recommend you check with your local council as well to ensure that converting your garage is allowed and meets any necessary building regs.

Converting a garage typically involves several stages. Here is a general overview of each stage involved:

1. Planning & Design
Involves deciding on layout and function of the space being converted. At this point we recommend a discussion with an architect or a contractor to create a design that meets your needs and budget.

2. Obtaining Planning permission (If needed)
Checking with your local council as to whether or not you need planning permission for the work you wish to carry out. This part involves submitting plans, paying fees, and undergoing inspections.

3. Construction
This stage involves removing the existing fixtures, walls and structures that are no longer needed and then installing the new walls, floors, lighting, electrics, plumbing and heating, fixtures and fittings.

4. Final Inspection
Once work has been completed a final inspection is required to be carried out by the building control to check all safety & building measures and requirements have been met.

Several factors to determine whether a loft is suitable for conversion. They are as followed:

1. Headroom
Loft should have a minimum headroom clearance of 2.2 meters (7 feet 2 inches) through out at least half of the floor space and no less than 1.9 meters at the edges.

2. Roof structure
Should be suitable for conversion, with adequate support and framing to accommodate the additional weight of the new space. (This will require consulting a structural engineer or architect)

3.Floor area
Should have enough floor area to be converted into a usable living space. Minimum size required for a loft conversion is around 5.5 meters by 7.5 meters.

4. Staircase
There should be enough space for a staircase leading up to the loft. This may require reconfiguring the existing layout of the home.

Same with any big home renovation project, you will need to check with your local council to check on planning permissions, building regulations and requirements.

A typical overall of the stages include:

1.Planning and Design
This stage involves deciding on the layout, design, and function of the converted space. You may need to work with an architect or contractor to create a design that meets your needs and budget.

2. Obtaining Planning permission
Apply for planning permission. This part involves submitting plans, paying fees, and undergoing inspections.

3.Structural Assessment
A structural engineer will assess the loft to ensure that the existing structure can support the additional weight of the new space. They will also provide guidance on any modifications that need to be made to the existing structure.

4. Construction
This stage involves constructing new walls, flooring, and ceilings. This may involve installing new insulation, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. A new staircase will also need to be installed to provide access to the new space.

5. Finishing and Decoration
This stage involves adding finishing touches such as paint, flooring, lighting, fixtures, and furniture. You may also need to install storage solutions, such as closets or cabinets, to maximize the use of space.

6. Final Inspection
Once the construction work is complete, a final inspection will be carried out by the local government to ensure that the converted space meets all safety and building code requirements.

It's important to note that the exact stages involved in a loft conversion can vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project. The timeline and cost of the project will also depend on a variety of factors.
