What makes a great website?
First it has to cover the basics : Functionality - User Experience, Updated links and Information, content that is appropriate to drive the viewer to the call to action.
Second: The Design - is it pleasant to look at? Is it easy to understand what the big picture of the company/ individual purpose of the website is offering. Is the content balanced, are the pictures showing content in the "best light or perspective"? Does the branding follow through each page? ...
Finally: Is it representative of the individual who owns it? Does it show their values, ethos? what makes their project/ products unique? Does it give the user an experience that is enjoyable and memorable, so it stands out in their mind against the competition?
Extras: Is it Search Engine Optimized? Does it contain appropriate targeted add words, is it set up to be bootstrapped ? How does it carry on to the marketing and branding side of the business needs?
A good website can be a lot of different things, and will not be a standard template.
The most overlooked part of starting a website is maintaining it. Clients often come to me with no maintenance plan, needing the website to be a commerce set up, a shop, have events or take bookings, etc, but no plan of how they are prepared to maintain it.
When you go on someone else's website, and click on a product you want to buy, but the link is broken... what do you do? You leave. You don't go back. Because an unmaintained website tells your customers or viewers you do not care about them or their experience.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I have a check list that I go through in the consultation stage, or just after, where I ask everything about my new "partner" & and their business, from how it works, to the long term goals.
The more I know about the person/ company I am tasked with representing the better. I can then make experienced and educated decisions of how to edit content, create headings, place products, and do all the "invisible" work involved in creating a website. ( i.e., not pick a blue or white background)
If my clients are open and honest with me, I always end up feeling all the passion and excitement towards their endeavour that they do. Its hard not to love specializing in new business Start-Ups, because your working right at the source of inspiration in its raw form. You're creating someone's "baby" that's going to grow with them for years. I know how important it is to get things right the first time, so the business is Designed for Success!

What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
First of all I need to know in detail what they want and need for their project. Then what their time Frame is and their budget.

What do you love most about your job?
I love the whole process of Designing Websites and making Graphic Designs. Every step of working with a client to the positive, excited energy that comes from seeing them happy and in love with their new website.
What inspired you to start your own business?
What inspired me to start my own business? I came to create Phoenix Hart Designs CIC after a long process of self discovery. I majored in Psychology at university, and learnt what the key to my own happiness was. Then I wrote a list of all the things I wanted in my life, and asked the universe " how do I get my life to follow this path? " Then I listened to what the world was saying to me, and the synchronicities that it was showing me.
I was already designing many things as a hobby, making custom embroidery designs for friends, custom engraved gifts for special occasions, designing and up-cycling all the time to transform something old and invaluable into something amazing.
When I started listening to the universe, I really heard what people were saying to me for the first time, I used to just brush off comments like " why don't you make this into a business? Why aren't you selling these things ? You should teach lessons in how to do this, etc". So I got the hint and started my business.
It went through a transformation process along the years, to become a CIC so I can align my values and ethos, about giving back to the community, and supporting those who need my help the most, and now its everything I want it to be and I wish I had done it 10 years sooner.
