How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Most garages con be converted to living space.
2 main factors would be whether it would be permitted with local council and also what structure would need to be altered to accommodate new openings to existing floor plan.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Supply for and gain planning permission if necessary
Apply for building regulations.
Complete all structural works first ( footing, form new openings)
Remove garage door and brick up face
Bring up floor level to existing floor plan height
Insulate floor walls and ceiling to current regulations
First fix electrics and plumbing
Plastering works including any fire breaks necessary
Second fix electrics, plumbing and joiner
Paint
Invite building control for final inspection and sign off.
