What do you love most about your job?
So passionate about all things dog, I decided to make them the focus of my career after years of working in an office with people. My love of dogs comes from always being around them, family pets and working dogs. I lived for the weekend when I could spend time with my own dogs that I decided qualified as dog trainer with the Dog Training College and haven't looked back since.
I love being able to help people understand why their dogs are a certain way, how to shape and change their dogs behaviour. My favourite thing about the job is seeing that lightbulb moment in both dog and owner when something suddenly clicks and I go away knowing I have made a difference.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Mindful Dog is a small dog training business that is run by Georgie Cecil, a certified dog trainer with the Dog Training College. Georgie's passion for animals and her strong belief in positive reinforcement techniques have led her to start this venture, along with her own two dogs Burghley and Dottie.
Why should our clients choose you?
Being both mindful of people and dogs, I will help you train your dog. Training the dog is the easy part, it's training the human to understand the dog that is more difficult - I come with games, tools, techniques that are fun and effective. My training techniques are completely ethical and no aversive training is used.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I have various programmes that can be done remotely if that is preferred. These include recall programmes, puppy training and understanding reactivity. I run a Puppy Essentials Zoom call, which lasts 90 minutes and can be available for those ad hoc calls, in 15 minute slots when you want to ask a question, get some advice, but don't think you need an hours worth of training.
Puppy Training
Bringing a new puppy into your home is an incredible experience. They're adorable, full of joy, and it's hard not to fall in love at first sight. But let's be honest, it also comes with a big set of responsibilities and can be quite tiring. That's where we come in with our custom puppy options.
Once your puppy is settled in to your home, you'll be eager to dive into everything related to their care and training. This includes understanding their need for sleep, establishing a daily routine, engaging in enrichment activities, fostering their confidence, strengthening your bond, socialising, exercising, and housebreaking.
But figuring out where to start can be overwhelming. How much should you be doing right now? Are certain activities more crucial at different stages of their development? What if your puppy is shy or overly energetic? How will they handle being alone at night, or what if something scares them? If they don't interact with enough other dogs, will it affect them? It's normal to have these concerns and many more.
There is the puppy essentials programme - aimed at those about to get a puppy but also incredibly useful if you are in the very early days and need a guiding hand.
Then there is the personalised puppy training course - where we cover the essentials, to basic commands and so much more ensuring your puppy starts off on the right paw.
Reactive Dogs
Is your dog showing signs of reactivity? While it's true that reactivity is a form of expression and all dogs show it to some extent—reflecting their unique personalities—certain dogs exhibit more pronounced reactivity. This heightened state is often mistaken for aggression but usually stems from fear, frustration, or sheer excitement.
Georgie is well-versed in the nuances of managing a reactive dog and is committed to supporting you through this challenge. Her bespoke training programme is designed to channel your dog's reactivity into calm, controlled behaviour. Utilising positive reinforcement and customised training approaches, she will focus on gradual desensitisation, counterconditioning, and the cultivation of solid obedience skills.

Recall
The ability for a dog to reliably respond to a recall command is crucial for their safety and overall well-being. Ensuring that your dog can be called back to your side swiftly, in any situation, is essential for preventing potential dangers, such as running into traffic or encountering unfriendly animals.
We place a high emphasis on the importance of recall and offer a specialised programme aimed at addressing issues with poor recall.
Utilising positive reinforcement techniques in dog training has proven to be an exceptionally effective strategy for achieving dependable recall. Rewards like treats, affection, or playtime help to forge a positive link between obeying the recall command and receiving something enjoyable in return. This approach not only motivates the dog to comply with the recall command more consistently but also deepens the relationship between the pet and their owner.
With a commitment to patience, consistency, and the principles of positive reinforcement, it's possible to teach dogs to eagerly anticipate and respond to their owner's call, leading to safer and more pleasurable outings.
Loose Leash Walking
Mastering the art of walking calmly by your side is arguably one of the most essential yet frequently overlooked skills a dog can learn. The experience of being tugged along a pavement or through a field by an eager dog, set on reaching its destination, can range from mildly frustrating to downright embarrassing (trust me I know!). Such situations can dampen the joy of walking with your dog, making it a task you might dread rather than cherish.
