It's run down and in desperate need of modernisation or even simple repair. Not great if you need to hang around for a while, if trains are cancelled or delayed. Concorse section is small with only a few seats, the platform areas are open to the elements and the covered areas just leak so not great. They close the only waiting area early in the evening so on a cold winters night you have to stand on the platform with no shelter. Plenty places to park or leave your bike and very limited options for food or drinks. More...

Beautiful City. One time capital of England. Exceptional Cathedral, lots of independent quirky shops lovely Riverside walk with z few opportunities to feed the ducks and home to Winchester College an old public school with may famous alumni.

So for just one return journey to Winchester. Quite a nice contrast with 'My Station' of Chichester. The trains in Winchester are so much better and longer than the Southern trains that we have. Also for me, it seemed odd to have freight trains thundering through a town center station. I have never seen any freight on our tracks. Of course I would like to see more freight on trains rather than roads. It makes me realise the extent to which Chichester is blighted by our train service with level crossings that seem to have never been brought up to date technically to minimise disruption.
