Have worked with Gilmour Architects on a number of projects. What attracted us to Gilmour Architects was their ability to really understand and listen to what we wanted, developing the design whilst adding their own ideas and creativity to the design process. The result in the end achieved more than we expected. Robbie is an excellent architect and a joy to work with. More...

We worked with both Mary and Robbie at various stages of our renovation and highly recommend in terms of technical knowledge, attention to detail and professional approach.

We approached Gilmour Architects to assist with the renovation of our family home. Robbie and Mary are very professional, to which nothing was too much trouble. With this being our first project of this kind, they were always on hand to offer advice and answer our many queries, ensuring a smooth and stress free transition from drawing right through to building control. I would have no hesitation in recommending and would definitely use them again if the need was to arise. More...

After a long and difficult planning process, I got to see my home being built. Mary & Robbie were so efficient, creative and helpful in achieving a new modern home on a very small site.

I would recommend Gilmour Architects without hesitation. Mary designed & oversaw the renovation and extension of our 1920’s semi-detached house. This was a project in a conservation area and we were keen to both preserve and restore as much of the original character as possible - even while proposing to double the original footprint of the structure. Mary’s ideas and vision for our home were second to none. She was a pleasure to work with on both a professional and personal level. Throughout the course of the project, Mary brought us seamlessly through the stages of planning, tender and the build itself with flawless communication and extreme attention to detail. With her experience, knowledge and wide network of contacts Mary ensured that our planning application was approved the first time around and within 8 weeks of submission. Our project completed in 2011 and 8 years later our extended home looks as though it has always been here; blending beautifully with its surroundings. This is our “forever home” and we will always be so grateful to Mary for helping us to realize our dream project. If you are looking for an architect with an eye for beautiful detail and an open, genuine and friendly manner then look no further than Gilmour Architects. More...

Q&As

Less work will be required if the existing garage floors, walls and roof are already insulated .

Planning permission may not be required, depending on the amount of new openings (windows and doors) that are required and if the existing external appearance will be staying roughly the same (i.e. not converting a flat roof to a pitched roof.)
Building control approval will most likely be required.

Head height is an important issue - although additional room can be created by including a flat roof dormer.
The existing ceiling joists may not be suitable to carry the additional floor loads, so new joists may have to be provided.

Again planning may not be required, depending on the need for new windows and their size/location.
Building control approval will most likely be required.
You may need to carry out additional work to parts of the existing house in order to cater for fire regulations and fire escape for the newly converted loft space.

We work closely with the client to cater for their tastes but provide advise in contemporary styles and trends as well.

We can cater for all interior design styles but we would aim to blend the existing style of your home seamlessly with the current style of your new extension/refurbishment

Creating someone's dream home and providing them with something that they never even thought was possible.

My father and the fact that I had gained valuable experience working for a number of other architect practices in Northern Ireland and England.

We offer a great mixture of experience coupled with a dynamic and modern approach and we are extremely passionate about what we do.
