The workmanship of the company has been first class (joinery, glazing, installation, and painting). There was a delay in works commencing due to information not being forwarded to their workmen nor ourselves with regards to a change in how the works were to be carried out on the first floor of our home. (Instead of, as originally planned, using a harness to access the first floor, a scaffold was to be used). Therefore it took 4 days to complete the installation works instead of 3 days. Unfortunately, CR Smith, or their subcontractors, failed to return to our home to retrieve the scaffolding used in the installation works, so I had to arrange via a telephone call with CR Smith a suitable date and time for them to finally retrieve the scaffolding after 6 days of lying in our backyard. The courier firm they employed to retrieve the scaffolding only sent one person, therefore, although I have really bad eyesight caused by retinal detachments in both eyes, I gave him a hand. Damage was understandably caused to the facings of a interior doorway as our backyard is only accessible via the house and a painter was duly arranged to visit our home and remediate the damage. As per telephone conversation with a very friendly, empathetic, and professional lady at CR Smith today, the offer of a gift card has duly been accepted by myself as a goodwill gesture on behalf if the company to redress the aforementioned issue concerning the scaffolding. Deciding to choose CRSmith to install new windows was an easy and stressfree experience from start to finish from the first meeting where I was shown different options and advice on what would look best ( am glad I went with advice given as I now realise that what I at first thought I wanted wouldn't have been a good choice) the finance options are also very good. The two joiners Ivan and Michael were extremely pleasant arrived at appointed time and worked like trojans (wish all tradesmen had same mindset) they were here for two days and all mess was cleaned up each evening even the pavement where they had been cutting was left spotless. Absolutely delighted! Michael, Kieran and Jack arrived promptly and set to work straight away, kept us informed throughout the installation and worked so efficiently with minimum disruption to us! They cleaned up after themselves to the extent you wouldn't know they had been! To share my own recent experience with CR Smith, Ltd: Following a professional and amiable visit by a CR Smith Salesperson (Harry) we placed an order for an external back door and main bedroom windows. Unfortunately, the subsequent installation scheduling was not the best of experience. We encountered a number of delays and frustrations, and had a less than helpfull or understanding interface with "Customer Support". We have used CR Smiths on several previous occasions for replacement doors, windows and a new conservatory. In Oct 2023, we had 2 replacement double glazing windows (Lorimer range) in our living room. Surveyor and initial sales contact were excellent in terms of information and advice given and the products themselves appear of very high quality. Fitting on the day was completed by two very polite and cheery workmen, who overcame a couple of minor hitches encountered during the fitting very professionally. It was gone 5pm on a Friday afternoon when the job was completed, but a bit more of a thorough clean up of all work surfaces would have been good. A second small point is that the confirmatory letter from head office gave Tues 10th Oct as the date for the painter to come in and do the finishing off touches, but subsequent 'phone calls confirmed that this would actually take place on Wed 11th Oct. Nearly two years after installation, there was a problem with the locks. The door wouldn't lock from the outside, and then the key broke in the lock. I contacted CR Smith, who said that they would get the joiner there that afternoon. Then I remembered that the locks had been changed nearly a year ago, so phoned back, thinking that I wouldn't be covered by the warranty. I was told that the joiner would come out anyway, to make sure that it wasn't a fault with the door itself, and very soon the lock was fixed. Replacement of handles, hinges and key parts of windows & doors.
FIX can repair or replace most of the key parts on your windows and doors, returning them to working order – no matter who fitted them originally. We can also service most types of roof window.
Door repairs & upgrades
Whether you want to enhance the security on your existing door, or refurbish it with some shiny new ironmongery, FIX is a one-stop-shop that will make your once tired door shine like new.
General repairs of windows & doors
Over time, various parts on a door can deteriorate or break either due to wear and tear or accidental damage. FIX can spruce up all the doors in your home by replacing, for example, damaged rubber and brushed seals, broken drip bars or drainage caps as well as adjusting the hinges for smooth operation.
Lock Upgrades
If you want to upgrade your door security there are various measures you could implement. Door guards, chains and spy holes can be installed to nearly any door, whether it’s uPVC or timber.
You can also upgrade your locks by fitting a high security cylinder which includes anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-drill and anti-bump technology and, where your existing door will allow, a multi-point hook lock. All of which are PAS 24 and Secured by Design accredited.
Door ironmongery.
Beautiful ironmongery will make any door come to life as well as giving it a really noticeable make over. We can supply and fit handles, letterplates, door knockers and spy holes in a range of colours and finishes to suit your door and personal taste.
Replacement uPVC panels.
If you have a uPVC panel in your door and fancy giving it a new look, or it has been damaged and you want it replaced, FIX can change the panel without having to go to the expense of buying an entirely new door.
Panels come in a range of styles, each with its own decorative glass designs so there are lots to choose from.
Secondary Glazing
Keep the heat in using your existing windows and our range of draft proofing products, including secondary glazing.
Increased insulation is the main reason customers install secondary glazing. An insulating layer of air is created between the secondary glazing and the external house window that helps to retain heat inside the property. However equally important is the detail by which the window is fitted and sealed. All our secondary glazing is custom made and fitted by our fully qualified installers. And with our bespoke Discreet Fit™, the product itself will be inobtrusive.
Mastic & silicone seals.
Over time, seals can become detached from your external brick work and are often the cause of the annoying ‘whistling’ sound you might hear from within your home. If left without proper maintenance and reapplication, water could enter your property. However, FIX can remove and replace these seals – an important job to ensure the long-term weather tightness, comfort and subsequent value of your home.
