How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Garage conversions are proving to be very popular for creating an additional annex, a work at home office or Studio (subject to planning) invariably a Garage is of single skim construction, however there are many ways if converting the premises to both Insulate and Soundproof the building in a cost effective way. Flat roofs can be transformed to allow in more light by installing Lanterns or light tunnels as well as aesthetically pleasing they can opening up the building. Pitched roofs can be kept vaulted with Velux windows alternatively a mezzanined area can be created internally to accommodate a sleeping area or just additional space. It is imperative the Garage is kept sympathetic to the main property in specified areas although the interior once all permissions have been granted can be a complete contrast if preferred. In effect a Tardus upon entering. The Interior needs to be both Creative and space saving, All amenities can be obtained for the Garage in turn cresting s cosy, funky new area rather than just an empty space, rarely used and full of Boxes !
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Asses with the Client exactly what they would like to achieve and what their budget is.
Have a full Survey done and apply for all necessary permissions should they be required, check if permitted is available alternatively apply for Planning permissions, change of use & Building Control
If necessary full Architectural drawings done and Interior Designed too. Include all services and differentiate the spaces if not open plan.
Insulation, soundproofing is imperative, depending on the size of the Building. Dies the client want it totally depressed to the main property, linked in or accessible to the Garden areas ? Decide on the Design and practicality, finalise with a superb extra space be it Funky or practical, either way additional rooms within your land.
What’s your interior design process?
We work in closely with the Architect and from the conception, once floor space created and all regulations covered then the fun begins, from first fix to completion all areas designed and contents sourced, we keep the client in the Design process as at the end of the day the space will ultimately be for the client not the Dedigner, we like to think that we tweak a clients imagination and suggest alternatives in keeping with the project.
Which interior design styles can you cater for?
All styles, from Classic to Contemporary, Listed & Heritage Buildings, Conservation areas and new build. Every client and property is different. We pride ourselves as being both sympathetic to a building as well as imaginative.
What do you love most about your job?
The enjoyment the spaces we create give to the client, taking a client through a journey as stress free as possible and seeing their faces upon completion! Opening up a clients imagination and way of living within their ‘Castle’
What inspired you to start your own business?
My passion for property and Interiors, both commercial and residential, the feeling of loving to be in or at your home or work area, when you open the door the initial smile of contentment ?
