Essex County cricket club is a lovely venue. It's not as posh as some of the other cricket grounds I've been to but more facilities than others. I can't quite bring myself to give it less than 5 stars. It has a family feel to it. All the staff we spoke to were really friendly. Whilst I was 1 of probably less than 5 women spectators, I still felt comfortable and welcome. The stands are a little tired but that adds to the charm. The toilets were clean and well maintained. I can't comment on the food or drink stalls as Essex had such a fantastic day against Lancashire that the game didn't make it to lunch! If I could make a recommendation, I'd ask that a little more information was shared in advance. I found it quite difficult to find out what we could or couldn't take in and we had some items confiscated at bag search. Everyone was so good about it and we were able to collect on the way out but I am one of those people that like to get everything right and I felt I'd let them side down by getting that wrong. A little more information would help the club attract a more diverse crowd though by helping families or neurodiverse groups. Would definitely like to visit again and hopefully stay a little longer! Smashing little ground with a delightful hodgepodge of mismatched little stands with good views from all parts of the ground Hospitality is generally dear but you can get a takeaway coffee for £2. There are enough food/drink outlets to keep the queues down and also boasts a shop and museum Championship tickets are cheaper when bought in advance and you can sit where you like and move at will, the club is very welcoming to visitors There is a decent car park on Moulsham Street nearby More...

It's a nice cricket club but the parking company they employ is rotten. I was fined £100 even though I paid twice on the day in question. My appeal was given no attention. I emailed the cricket club to complain but I received no response. More...

An independent report into racist language and behaviour at Essex has upheld a string of allegations, including the use of the nickname “curry muncher” for two players of South Asian heritage and the repeated taunting of a black player with a banana. Commissioned by the club in late 2021, and covering a period from the mid-1990s to 2013, the report by Katharine Newton KC paints a grim picture of the dressing room culture at Chelmsford in which racist slurs were normalised as “banter”. Minority ethnic players, the report concluded, were “too scared to speak up” for fear of damaging their careers. More...
