About
I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, having trained at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and Counselling - one of the leading training institutes in the North East.
I have worked with a range of men and women between the ages of 18 and 84, all with varying backgrounds and reasons for coming into therapy.
Some clients have come to see me having had previous experience of therapy and others having had no counselling or therapy before.
I have worked with clients within various settings including NHS referrals, charities and privately. The clients I have worked with have overcome a range of issues including anxiety and worrying, phobias, depression, low mood (feeling sad), grief, bereavement and loss, stress, family issue, relationship issues including separation, divorce, affairs and betrayals, low self-esteem and low self-confidence issues, trauma and sexual abuse. I also have particular experience of working with families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome.
I enjoy working with people both over a longer period to help them reach a place of lasting change and over a shorter period where we work in a more solution-focussed way. In both cases, I like to allow for the process of therapy to develop at a natural pace. This means that the way we work will be individual to you, your story and the person you are.
I provide both brief, solution-centred and short-term counselling and longer-term depth therapy to suit your wishes.
Therapy with me:
As an integrative therapist, I draw on a variety of approaches and tools which means that therapy with me is flexible and adaptable. The approaches I draw on include Transactional Analysis, person-centred, Gestalt, creative therapies and psychotherapy.
When we meet, I’ll do everything I can to help you to feel comfortable. It can be daunting to meet a therapist for the first time and it’s important to me that you feel safe throughout the counselling process.
We will begin by getting to know each other, which will help us to identify what approach is best for you. I’ll be there to support you as we learn more about your difficulties, together.
This will create a good grounding for us to start to explore the basis and roots of your challenges. I’ll bring into your awareness the feelings I sense you might be experiencing, patterns in your behaviour that I notice and anything else that I feel might be useful in helping you to find your solution.
