We initially needed Maxine’s help for our oldest mini dachshund who had an issue with pulling on the lead/barking at other dogs.
The first day we met Maxine she was brilliant with Louis and we quickly noticed a change with him after the first session. She taught us techniques to distract him from the other dogs on walks and Louis picked this up very quickly!
I was very nervous to take Louis and our other mini dachshund Bailey out into open spaces as I was worried they would run off. Maxine gave us so many tips and tricks to help us take control of our dogs and make sure they were listening to commands. On our last session to our surprise our dogs were off the lead running around a big open space! We were so shocked but so happy that all of Maxine’s help had paid off. I would never have been confident to let them off the lead if it wasn’t for Maxine, and our dogs have been brilliant with the training which I never thought would happen as they used to have a tendency of never listening! I never thought I’d see the day our dogs were off the lead and I felt confident they would come to me when called.

Max was absolutely wonderful and Bella, our 2 year old Labrador retriever rescue, loved her!! We had 5 sessions to top up Bella’s training and she’s now pulling less on the lead, following the stop and wait command, resisting the urge to lunge towards other dogs, and starting to learn recall. Maxine was absolutely amazing with our golden. She had so much patience and was always very motivating for our dog. If you’re even half contemplating a dog trainer then I cannot recommend Max enough. She’s less of a dog trainer and more of a life saver!

We brought Max in for our seven month old Golden Retriever, Reggie to help with his recall. On the whole, Reggie was pretty good (or so we thought) but the second he saw another dog- no matter how far away- he was gone and wouldn’t come back until he had said hello. This was less of an issue if the dog was friendly but on three occasions he had approached very aggressive dogs that had tried to do him serious harm and I was half a field away with my other dog trying to catch up. We were genuinely terrified of what could happen.

Max had completely transformed Reggie and the methods we have learned through his recall are making him an all round better behaved dog as he’s far more engaged with us. Now when he sees a dog, even just a few feet away. He calmly lays down and waits for instructions- we’re no longer having our armed ripped out of our sockets while he leaps towards them or running across a field screaming “he’s friendly” as he bounds towards whatever dog has caught his eye.

Going from one dog to two was harder than we thought and at times we were despairing thinking what have we done. Now we’re loving our walks out and getting so many compliments on what a wonderfully well behaved dog we have. I cannot thank or recommend Max enough. She was non-judgmental, practical and logical in her training and everything seemed so obvious when she explained it. I only wish we had brought her in sooner. More...

Maxine was super friendly, down to earth and non-judgemental with our puppy american akita cross husky, who we were having issues with leaving for even short periods of time. She was very patient when the pup was jumping around excited that someone new was in the house. She went through different techniques and thoroughly explained them & that made it easy to know what steps we had to take once she had left. We were also having huge issues with crate training & Maxine was more than happy to help us. Within a couple of weeks of following the advice given, our pup improved massively! We still have a way to go but he is getting better and better each day & I honestly cannot thank & recommend Maxine enough! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! More...

Well what can I say? Max at dogs tails was amazing with my young staffy Bella who at the time starting her training was only 12 weeks old. I did a lot of research to find a trainer and time after time dogs tails has been getting 5 star reviews, I bit the bullet and got in contact. From the first message I sent Max I felt she was the one to train Bella. Max had asked what I wanted and determined how many session were required. We booked in 5 session over a 7 week period (due to Xmas holidays) as I wanted obeisance and lead training and anything else I could think of. Any concern I would have i would drop max a little message and she would get back to me as soon as she could to help with any training trouble I was having. Max doesn’t only train the dog, she also trains you on how to handle situations which you may come across. Max had also provided me details on potty and crate training even though this wasn’t discussed at the initial stages. On the fourth session we had covered all of the training requirements. On the final session max asked what I wanted to cover and I had a few concern which max pointed me in the right directions. I can safely say I would recommend Max to anyone who has a new or existing fur baby she very approachable and no task seems difficult. Working with Max has been fantastic. We needed help training our puppy, Otto, who was struggling with toilet training, separation anxiety, destructive behaviour and basic commands. Just finished our last lesson today with Dog Tails.
I’ve got to say a massive thank you to Max for all her help over the the last 6 weeks.
My boxer is 6 months old and we just wanted her to be well behaved/sociable and be well mannered.

She has done so well and we are so pleased with her, we have learnt so much from Max, she is so knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble, she always listened to any concerns and gave sound advice. We have a very well behaved clever little girl now and we have Max to thank for that.

Lyla (and me) has really enjoyed her lessons with such a fab trainer.

I never had a dog before, and had no idea on training methods. I got in touch with Max at Dog Tails, she was local to me and had very good reviews. I booked 8 lessons with Max for my cavapoo puppy named Poppy. Max came to the house to do training and have a chat with me, which made me very comfortable. To say Max is brilliant at what she does is an understatement, she is excellent and i would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs a dog trainer. By the 6th lesson Poppy had done all the training that Max had in mind for her, so for the last 2 lessons she taught Poppy how to climb stairs and to get into the car by herself. It was great working with Max training my dog who is very professional, friendly, explaining every stage, full of helpful information and my dog loved her.
During the training it was challenging for us all but after the six sessions we now have an obedient dog and reached all the goals we set out to achieve prior to starting the training.

Percy can be a handful when out on walks. Barked and lunged at everything that moved, including vehicles.
Max was recommended to me by a friend and I’m glad I booked with her.
Percy’s behaviour has improved tremendously and I now feel comfortable, in a busy park environment.

Max is a lovely lady very easy to get on with and she was great with my dog roxy the rottweiler, she trained roxy to sit and wait down and stay and when visitors come she helped us with keeping roxy calm and not jumping up and knocking people down and also walking her calmly on the lead and recall in the park all of which we are putting into practice daily. We booked 6 sessions of puppy training for our Springerdoodle with Max and would highly recommend! Max is down to earth, friendly, knowledgeable and our puppy loved his sessions. I could not recommend Max highly enough. She is so supportive and the techniques she has showed us have made our dog a lot calmer and a lot happier to walk on the lead. She worked with us to show us how to communicate effectively with our dog and as a result his behaviour has changed for the better. We have a very anxious french bulldog. He hadnt been socialisèd by his previous family so he doesnt like people and other dogs. With Max's help and advice Mikey is on the right path. She is calm and knowledgeable and with her by our side guiding us we know Mikey will be strutting his stuff sometime in the future. We cannot recommend Max enough. She has made walking out dog Sam much more enjoyable. He started off as a reactive dog who wouldn’t walk past a dog without losing his shit and being fixated on said dog until out of eye sight. We are now at the point where we can walk Sam round a busy park full of dogs without reactions. We are still practicing and will continue to use Max to make sure we don’t get out of the good habits so hopefully we can get to the point where Sam will walk in close proximity of other dogs without reactions. Max is brilliant, she gave us so much help with our rescue dog and still gives us advice when we need it. Definitely proves you can teach an old dog new tricks!
