Canine Connections Hertfordshire offers ethical, reward based dog training in Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage and Hertford and dog walking in Datchworth, Tewin, Watton-at-Stone and Bennington. We are passionate about animals and have owned dogs and horses for many years. We understand that pets are part of the family and that as owners you want the very best care and attention for your precious pet and we are here to provide that service.

The team
Lisa Slater, DipMgmt, IMDT, GoDT
Lisa has owned and trained dogs for many years and strongly believes in ethical, reward based training to get the best results. She has experience re-homing and rehabilitating dogs with severe behaviour problems such as separation anxiety and people aggression.
Lisa has been studying canine behaviour and training for many years but really became interested in working as a dog trainer when encountering problems with her own dog who developed reactivity issues at a young age. Lisa feels she has learnt more from working with her own dogs than any book or course could have taught her.
Lisa has also volunteered at local dog shelters to gain further experience handling different breeds and temperaments.
In addition to training dogs, Lisa has also clicker trained her Welsh Highland Pony, Stinky, to do tricks and appeared on ITV’s ‘Teach My Pet To Do That’ in September 2017.
Lisa is a full member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and a member of the Guild of Dog Trainers.
Jonathan Lee
Jon helps out with dog walking during busy periods. He has many years' experience owning and handling dogs. Previously from the Peak District, Jon loves to walk and will often be out for hours walking our own dogs! He also enjoys gun dog training and canicross with our own young Labrador.

Dog & Puppy Training
1 to 1 sessions
Does your dog jump up every time someone comes to the door, pull you down the road to get to the park or run off and ignore your constant calling? We can help you get a better 'connection' with your dog to improve overall obedience.
Lisa offers 1-2-1 dog training in your home or out and about in the East Herts area to give you the tips and tools you need to improve the relationship with your dog and work on problem areas such as:
• Re-call
• Jumping Up
• Pulling on the lead
• Barking
• General obedience

Group Classes
We run dog training classes to suit all abilities from puppy through to adult dogs using positive, reward based methods. It’s not just about obedience but helping you to build a trusting and lifelong relationship with your dog. We believe training should be fun so we build different activities into our classes like tricks, scent work and agility.
Our classes are small so that you and your dog receive lots of individual coaching during the session.
Most of our classes are run outdoors in our enclosed field at Digswell Nurseries, Welwyn Garden City but we also run classes indoors at The Bragbury Community Centre in Stevenage.

Puppy Packages
Bringing home a new puppy can be one of the most exciting times for you and your family but can also be very challenging. We want to help you get off to the best start with your new arrival and our puppy pack provides everything you need to settle your puppy into their new home and help them learn the necessary life skills to fit into your home environment. With a strong emphasis on positive socialisation, relationship building and communication we can ensure your puppy has the right foundation to become a happy and sociable dog.
Puppy pack includes:
• 2 x 1 hour one to one sessions (pre and post puppy arrival)
• Puppy starter pack
• 6 week puppy course
• Telephone and email support

Social Training Walks
It can be difficult transferring training from a controlled environment i.e. dog training classes into the real world on your walks. Our group training walks take the form of a group training class but actually on a walk. There is a maximum of 4 dogs and handlers per walk and we will cover the following:

Loose Lead Walking
Recall (with distractions)
Impulse control
General manners (e.g. walking through gateways)
Dog to dog introductions
Interpreting body language
Creating calmness on walks
Focus, connection and engagement with the handler
Using play on walks
Emergency stop

Walks are held in Panshanger Park, Hertford and last an hour and a half

Dog Walking
We provide dog walking in Datchworth, Tewin, Watton-at-Stone and Bennington.
We know how important it is to you as owners to know that your dog has had a good amount of exercise and stimulation during the day whilst you're at work. That's why we vary our walks every day and also play games and incorporate training into the 45 minutes your dogs is with us. We will pick up your dog and if part of the group walk (maximum 4 dogs) we will transport them safely and comfortably in our dedicated vehicle with separate crates and comfy vet bed! We like to walk dogs 'off the beaten track' rather than in parks so they can explore the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside and have lots of stimulation. We also offer individual walks (subject to availability) for those dogs that need a little space. With your permission we will walk dogs off leash within a safe environment. When we return your dog we will towel them off if they are wet and muddy and top up their water if required.
