My 150 year old simple system clarinet had been written off as fit for the bin by another local instrument repairer. Ray repadded it, serviced it and repaired the cracks. Such a wonderful job; the clarinet plays like new. A genuine and decent guy who truly knows his stuff, I'd recommend anyone looking for good quality instrument repairs to use Ray. 10 out of 10! I have been playing the sax since I was eleven but hadn't played for twenty years or so. I wanted to play again but needed motivating. And then I happened upon Blowout Sax. After an inspiring telephone chat with Blowout's founder, Mark Archer, I booked my first lesson. I absolutely loved it! Marks' passion, enthusiasm and knowledge about all things saxophone is infectious. He's taught me skills I'd forgotten or never knew about. Even the premises are quirky! Set in a period lodge building I smile every time I climb the narrow staircase and thank the stars I don't play the bass sax! To balance my review I tried to think of a negative aspect about Blowout Sax. But you know what? There isn't one. More...

A fantastic place and a fantastic way to learn the sax. Warm & friendly, Mark builds confidence whilst teaching and his love of music and the sax is infectious.

A really enjoyable and easy alternative to the traditional schools of learning sax. Their Blowout Sax books require no understanding of music theory (I have none), so once I grasped the basics of finger placement, embouchure and breathing techniques I was able to jump straight into learning songs on the alto sax. Every song in the books have the scales printed at the top of the page too, so you naturally become familiar with them as you progress – without even realising. Warm, friendly teacher and a relaxed teaching environment – highly recommended. More...

I unreservedly recommend Ray for your instrument repairs. He's a lifesaver. My daughters play wind instruments and Ray was recommended by their teacher. I would never go anywhere else.
