Roli was great. She managed to find a way to push an existing beam up to provide us with more head height and was very responsive on all our queries and amendments.

Thank you Joe for your kind words! We are glad to know that the contractors were able to implement the design solution suggested by Roli for the existing beam! It was a pleasure working with you and we hope the works are completed to your delight very soon 😀

Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Firstly, the architectural drawings are reviewed and initial discussions with the clients are discussed and the following are considered:
1. likely sizes of elements
2. How far the new dormer can extend out
3. Whether there would be a flush ceiling all through
4 If there would be collar joists or if it must remain open
5. The location of the ridge beam or purlins based on the above.
6. The appropriate end supports of the ridge beams or purlins, especially where there may be a party wall or a live chimney breast.
6. If it would be preferred to reuse the existing roof rafters
7. Whether steel beams should be raised up so as not to disturb ceiling finishes of the floor below, whilst taking into account the minimum head room requirements
8. Depth of the new floor joists whilst taking into account the minimum head room requirements.
Once these details have been briefly discussed, an initial structural scheme showing the layout of the required structural elements is then prepared and sent out within a few days, to the client for their comments.
Once comments are received, any changes requested are made, as long as they are structurally appropriate, and the structural drawings and details and calculations are finalised and issued. This can be given to the contractor and the client also forwards it on to the appropriate Building Control Authority.
Any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask
What do you love most about your job?
With residential projects, we love being able to see the vision the client and/or architect have, brought to life using our structural design strategies and solutions.
With steel connections, we also love the challenge of complex connections which often require a 3D design software. The process of coming up with a design solution for complex cases is quite thrilling.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The Managing Director grew up going to construction sites, as her parents are architects. Consequently, her passion for all things buildings was born and continued to grow. The construction site is one of her favourite places to be.
Having completed her undergraduate degree and masters degree , and worked for over 8 years within the construction industry, she has gained a lot of experience and is therefore ready to expand and achieve greater heights in her field.
Why should our clients choose you?
We strive for excellence in everything we do whilst making it as much of a stress free process for you as possible, and also giving you good value for your money.
Having acquired a vast experience in residential projects and steel connection designs, we are able to proffer sustainable solutions that are both viable and economically conducive, and also take into account any site limitations as best as possible.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Yes, whilst we are happy to visit properties for inspections, for an additional fee, with the relevant architects drawings, and adequate photos, we can provide services remotely to you. We are happy to have an initial phone conversation or zoom meeting to discuss the works. Additional meetings will usually be at an extra cost, and we can respond to queries via email.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Majority of, if not all of our work is carried out online, with no real need to send you any physical paper documents as these are all sent via email. Consequently, there is no possibility of contamination.
In the case where a site visit is required, appropriate measures in line with the current government guidance will be upheld.
